The latest crop of outright 2WD contenders, sure is bringing some new (and alternate) technology (and their own special "look") to the DAKAR this year. :nod

and fresh from RG's SPEED drink shop...

... a lot of folks hoping that this one isn't lemon flavoured.

This will certainly be one of the most closely scrutinized vehicles in Rosario on the 3rd and 4th of January.

When I visit SoCal in spring of 2014 Mark, we'll have to go down to Rosarito, have a few margarita's and you can share some of that goog stuff you're smoking... :rofl

That's what I love about the states mate, the unbridled enthusiasm for the underdog! :clap

I agree there is an even chance that Orange won't take the #1 on the Moto podium this year... the first time in a decade that I have felt that.

But I don't believe we will see Orange on top in the auto class either. :augie I'm on record earlier (in this thread and others) as saying that the new tech that RG's new car and the EVR vehicles exhibit, can mean a new direction for DAKAR in the auto T1 category... but for 2014 I think that X-raid and the Overdrive Toyota's still have the proven track record and goods to take the title this year (as well as sheer weight of numbers, experience etc.).

RG will prove to be fast, win some stages. BJ will learn, and by race end - if the EVR goes all the way - he will also be on the pace.

january 2015 maybe...? Yeah with the way things are going in the rule book, I'd expect the Amercan metal to be right up the front...

But by that time, Sven/Perfecthansel & Co. will have had 14 months to get any kinks ironed out on the MINI's successor, and Pugeot will be back in the game to kick ass and take names. :evil

Slightly off topic ,but does anyone remember and know where the Citroen ZX rallye raid cars ended up ?? they were ahead of their time back in the late 80s and early 90s ,and won the Dakar a number of times .

Guerlain still has a relationship with MINI/JCooper Works via his GRAVI-T freestyle rally team, where he drives a MINI Cooper - most notably earlier in the year pulled off an reverse flip in one off a specially prepared freestyle jump at TIGNES in France.

Yep, after a few successful years with X-Raid in the X-3CCR's (including one FIA CCR Championship title), Chicherit was given the job in DAKAR 2011 of giving the MINI All4 racer it's competition debut.

Apparently, team priority #1 (other than the remaining team X-3's to compete with VW for the overall) was that the MINI finish...

During the rest day, the team took the Mini out for a "shakedown" after it had recieved a "rest day" refurbishing. With Chicherit at the wheel, it went into a hole and was totalled...

He parted company with the X-Raid team as a result and spent twelve months looking for a drive (missed DAKAR 2012). For 2013 he was back in a 2WD SMG Buggy - which he showed good speed with, but by his own comment was too fragile/not reliable enough.

Now for 2014, sees him in one of the new EVR cars, presumeably with long time sponsor ONSTER on the side?

Many of the various generations of the ZX's (there were several) were broken down/dismantled once their life as rally vehicles came to and end... Citröen had a policy of not selling these vehicles on to privateer teams.

A few of them were kept as museum pieces and I know of (at least one) that was sold to a private collector - this was one of the latest spec versions as driven by Pierre Lartigue and Ari Vatanen in the 1997 season...:deal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f_ZnggWfME the last year they were eligible in competition.

Those things would still compete with todays top level vehicles... heaven help us if Citröen (or Pugeot) come back, with the "freedom" of the FIA 2WD rules as they are now. :huh

One thing is, if they do - Chicherit would make a good "fit" in such a (french) team along with Seb Loeb and the brainstrust... :evil

Someone at the ASO graphics dept. obviously had not rtead the fineprint on their "pre-nuptual" agreement, the pic's leaked out and the sh1t hit the f5an... :lol3 Maybe Etienne needs to get a hold of RG's leaks lawyer on the job to draw up some non-disclosure clauses?

I would think they put the Peugeot 205T16 group B rally body work back on them, since they would be worth more?
