As much as I would REALLY love to do this, circumstances don't allow it alas.
Sadly Dorset, I have also heard this is the last
Man.....that's on my bucket list......
Hoping like Jen said its a rumour to drum up some more sign-up's.
They had it tough last year because 38 of the 78 teams that signed up pulled out with the "trouble" in North Africa so the rally was cancelled (as I'm sure you know). They (the organisation) have done a lot this year to re-assure people it is safe - they recently did a trip to Mauritania and have been given assurances etc.
As stated above, it must be an arm and a leg to run it so if there aren't enough people signed up.......
It will be desperately sad if its coming to an end, at least its one of the last (is it THE last only one?) that actually goes to Dakar, doesn't the Intercontinental go to Dakar?
OK... just a quick 2013 update... (btw. this thread has had over 240,000 views now - mega! - maybe I'll call time when it hits 250,000 xx)
This last week I sold the 'spare' WR450, and have taken a deposit on the Tenere - the new owner will be collecting it next month on his return from Afghanistan...
Both bikes have gone to a great home, but more importantly, I now essentially have my entry fee for Dakar 2013 covered - so it is all systems go, come mid-May when the entries traditionally open.
In the meantime, along with a complete rebuild of the race bike (new thread to start soon, I promise!), I am working on the revamp of the www.jennydakar.com website (the link is to the current version - plenty to see in the gallery section if you've not already visited), and once I have secured some merchandise from sponsors, the new web-shop will be up and running with hopefully a wider range of team gear, together with the 2013 campaign supporter's swag-packs!
It's going to be an uphill struggle mind you, as this year I don't have the buffer of any personal savings - so if anyone can (or knows anyone who can) help out with stuff like service consumables/tyres/airmiles and stuff like that I would be eternally grateful - please do get in touch through a PM here or via email on the website...
Lima here we come Piglet - yea!
Good news Jenny.
Get set for Round Two!
Press release just in (or out):
Press Release – Dakar 2013
The 35th edition of the Dakar will also be the 5th to take place on the South American continent, which has hosted the event since 2009. From 5th to 20th January 2013, the competitors will follow the route between Lima in Peru and Santiago in Chile, with a rest day planned at San Miguel de Tucuman in Argentina. The desert will be on the programme from the first days of the rally, for the first time in its history.
Several weeks ago, the riders and drivers on the Dakar discovered the Peruvian version of the desert. Struck by its splendour but also its technical demands, in this setting of sea and sand, they experienced a highly intense sequence before the finish in Lima. For the next edition, the Peruvian capital will play host to the start of the rally, with the promise of holding an exceptional challenge in store for those who take part; one that is simply equal to the test they have to face each year.
At the end of the journey, the rally will finish for the first time in Santiago. Chile, which, in the Atacama, has been the theatre to most of the unpredictable developments during the last four editions, will have the opportunity to celebrate the heroes of the Dakar in its capital city.
Over the thousands of kilometres that they will have to tackle, the competitors will distance themselves from the Pacific Ocean as the event is spiced up by a detour via Argentina. On the other side of the Andes Mountains, the variety of terrains will put all the competitors' capacities to adapt to the test.
With a reworked spread of difficulties and a new perspective on the discovery of the continent's geography, the Dakar 2013 is emerging as the event for which both the elite and amateurs of the rally raid discipline prepare all year long. Registration will open for all the categories (bikes, quads, cars and trucks) on 15th May.
Be rude not to eh?
go get em.
Yeah Jenny!!! So happy for you that you've sold the bikes!!! 2013 is the year of the marathon finishers....I can feel it.
Wow, awesome to see, good luck with it all.
And we don´t want to be rude, do we?
Go gittem girl!
Really looking foward to reading your new thread about the bike rebuild. I hope you start it soon
First off, you guys are amazing! - despite being out of action for over a year now, this thread has now had almost 250,000 views - thank you all for hanging on in there!
I hope to have the newly revamped Jennydakar.com website up and running (complete with funky new 2013 merchandise and swag packs) to coincide with the entries opening in mid May... the good news is I have enough funding to cover my entry fee this year... the bad news is it's going to cost almost as much again to cover my assistance and support costs...
In the meantime, if you use Facebook at all and have not yet found it, please log on and 'Like' the JMO Racing page, which will be updated while the new website is in development, and throughout the 2013 campaign of course!
I am currently rebuilding the WR450 race bike, and will be starting a new 2013 thread here on ADV rider as soon as it's back together... then the fun begins!
Rock on Jen!
This F5 key of mine is gonna be shot to bits!

Great example of determination and long range planning. I sense a happy ending. I'll be following, keep up the good work.
This is epic! Best of luck with all the preperation.
Soon Piglet, soon...
