Dean Nuttall gains 3rd place in expert class on the crazy prolog day at the Romaniacs, will be interesting to see how all the Aussies[IMG] go in the next 4 days. Rumor from Romania has Dean 1st on day 1, keenly waiting for results.

On the 1st day the experts did ride some of the pros course, Dean mentioned he passed a number of them.
I think they are usually different?

Looks like he is still in the lead after day two.

25mins ahead of Van den Goorbergh (the ex GP rider, and I'm pretty sure he did a couple of Dakars, but that could have been in a buggy).

Not sure he was a GP rider... pretty sure he was a Motard champ though..? Either way it means he is pretty talented on a bike.

Dean has to be seen to be believed. I have never seen anyone look so inactive on a bike while riding over stuff that you would never imagine even trying! :eek1

From Wiki so it might only be partly true..

Like the fact that I'm pretty sure he was 2nd best finishing rookie in his first Dakar...

He pulled another 13mins today but aparently there may be peniltys involed because he may have followed the pro course for a while acording to Van Den Goorbergh anyway.

Overall results haven't been released yet but it looks as if Dean got a 15 min penilty, so he only lost 2 mins to Van Den Goorbergh and should still retain the lead in Experts by 23min.

A navigational error on day 3 sent Dean onto the pro course and from what I can understand he still got the best time of the experts having ridden pro.

At end of day 2 a TV comentator was interviewing the finishing riders asking if they enjoyed the day, the scenery. Graham Jarvis replied he had no time to look at the scenery. Dean when asked how he enjoyed the scenery replied "the day was great, was a real Dakar day for me, the scenery was fantastic and I even stopped a couple of times to take photos". The reporter was a bit amused by these coments compared to the rest. A great bit of footage. I am sure many of you could relate to Deans wit and enthusiasim.

    Something happened to Dean.

He finished 28min behind Van den Goorbergh, he only had a 24min lead going into today (the final day)..

He just got in so I have no idea what happened.

Yeah something amiss, will be keenly waiting for a phone call back home to explain the last 2 days.
Phone call has arrived. 10 kms from finish hit a dog and broke handlebars, Some sort of irony, broke handlebars on dakar and had dog troubles.
