So how did the name "Dakar" get transfered from Africa to S. America ?

btw - I do understand the rich history of the Dakar race in Africa organized by the French.

Wouldn't it be akin to transfering "The Isle of Man" to Vashon Island, WA, USA ? ? ?

    Hmmmmmm . . . . . . .

Feel free to shyeeit in this thread as I've come to expect it here . . . . . :lol3:wink:

    What say ye ?

Dakar except the race it is also an established Trademark that brings profits (and a lot). ASO wouldn't risk it to change the name and lose such a recognizable label. It's all about money after all ;)

The New York Giants and New York Jets both play and are headquartered in New Jersey.

    It's all about the trademark.

There are off road races in Europe and Africa that they call "Bajas". BTW, there is no one race in Baja California called "Baja", it is either the Baja 1000, or the Baja 500. There is no Baja 250, instead it is called the "San Felipe 250".
