Did some tinkering this weekend...replaced exhaust doughnut gaskets, gave the header and megaphone a nice polishing, and replaced about 20 odd fasteners with proper stainless steel hardware. The big $$ items (LiFe battery and chain...about 300.00 between the 2)) require that I be more responsible and pay bills first. :waysad So no, she isn't finished yet.

I have really let some things of a personal nature get to me here lately...lots of frustration, stress & a bit of worry thrown in for good measure. Uncertainty sucks.

It was nice to wake up and just catch a quiet sunrise. Would have been nicer if I didn't have a 135lb great dane anxious to get moving after we stopped for the photo op :lol3

The wee hours of Thanksgiving morning: Good coffee and a healthy dose of peaceful solitude is always a good way to start the day :D

I made two small 'wiring harnesses" to run the Dyna ignition and the coils thru a relay powered directly by the battery (so that the entire ignition circuit didn't have to push thru that 30 year old main wiring harness). Amazing what a big, fat unimpeded spark will do to ease starting. Just pull in the clutch and touch the starter...the engine rolls once and jumps to life, as it should.

    :nod

I came in from the garage last night smelling like exhaust and grinning like a little kid on Christmas :lol3

I've been gone from ADV too long, and my beemer is probably missing me since I bought the Aprilia. I'm gonna have to tour the lowcountry again after the new year.

Careful with the Shorai that your bike isn't over charging the battery, bad things can happen :kboom I made sure at 2500rpm that it wasn't putting out over 14.4v.
I put a Ballistic in my Ape and love it. Now that it's getting "colder" out, though I saw it was close to 80 the other day, I'll be back on the Beemer.

The GS series is a bike where overcharging is never an issue :lol3 Usually goes the other way around....After everything is all buttoned up, she is gonna get a stator and R/R test. I'll eventually be going to a compuFire R/R, which is much more like an alternator than the shunt type R/Rs on most older bikes.

I have had zero issues with the charging system on my Suzy, which is quite rare for both the age of the bike (both my stator and R/R are the OEM original parts), and make/model...GSes were notorious for weak charging systems.

I am weeks away from taking my MSF class and getting my first bike (a used 2008 Yamaha XT250 for a great price from my friend as a learner). I started a thread ( http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=22866349#post22866349 ) to try to learn a bit more about my area than I could from google. The first post back was a link this thread. It's amazing! It has gotten me even more excited about getting my first bike (if that was even possible) lol.

I just wanted to say thanks to OP and everyone else who contributed to this thread the last couple years! and also wanted to bump it since it has been a while

If anyone has any leads on some similar rides down in my neck of Coastal SC (Beaufort to Savannah) I would greatly appreciate it! Looking forward to more pictures ECR and other coastal SC'ers :)

Cant wait to ride ! :D

I used to live in Ladys Island and had to travel to HH for work. I used to go fishing at the at the canal that goes from the Savanah River to the water plant in Beaufort. It was on a dirt road( I think it was off hw 170), but regardless, there are many dirt roads in the area. Just have fun exploring!

    Hiya, Jack!

I've been around, and have even taken a few pics here and there...

Photobucket changed a bunch of stuff around and it kinda pissed me off, so I haven't uploaded anything in awhile. I suppose I should get over it and get to sharing some :lol3

How ya been? How is the Tiger 1050 treating you?

Thanks I am pretty sure I know what you are talking about..I go to the Port Royal Farmers Market every Saturday for my business. That is where alot of the good off road opportunities are. how many are private property is still unknown.

any other leads you think of would be much appreciated!

I talked to Bluffton PD and they said as long as theres no posted 'No Trespassing' signs then I should be good (at least with them)
