    Hey all,
I'm heading down to Savannah, GA (from the DC area) in a few weeks and was thinking of taking about a day and a half to ride each direction. Does anyone know of any interesting routes for this trip?

I'll be on a 600rr, so I'm limited to pavement.

    Thanks!

When you get down to SC cut over towards Myrtle Beach, Murrel's Inlet, Pawley's Island, etc. and follow the coast roads down to Charleston. You could probably get there in time to expore the city and enjoy the sights and good food. Next day, continue down the coast (as close as you can) to Beaufort and head out to Fripp Island. Hilton Head is too crowded for me, I wouldn't bother.
To come down via the Outer Banks of NC would be nice, but not in a day and a half. It usually took us about 10-11 hours to get from Springfield VA to Savannah in the car on the slab.
If you don't know Savannah, I can tell you some places to go and things to do.

Take a look at US Rt 17, you can pick it up at Fredericksburg, Va. and take it all the way to Fla. Beautifull ride, even has a ferry crossing if you want, but forget exactly where. I did it with a buddy in 1994 in a week old BMW 740i from Mid town Manhatan to Hilton Head for a week of golf, really great road trip.

17 is fine in the winter. this time of year, thru the fall, you have all the tourist traffic. it sucks in Glouster/Yorktown, VA, getting thru Portsmouth, VA can be a bitch. Myrtle Beach is a bitch. and it's flat and boring most of the way.

try to route thru the piedmont areas of VA and NC. at least you'll get some hills and curves

I live on St. Simons Island, 70 miles south of Savannah. Its already tourist season here, but its still beautiful to ride. Hwy. 17 in my opinion from Savannah to Brunswick, Ga. is an excellent road. If you come this far south that it. I cant speak of how nice 17 is north of Savannah.
