I've been riding in Death Valley - Been there three time between Feb 20th and Yesterday... Multiple day rides on various bikes... with my favorite riding partner; My Wife :raabia

I'm pretty lucky to have a girl who rides and takes chances...

I'm busy putting some pictures and videos (first time on YouTube so be gentle) together...

Pictures more than words here; I hope it inspires someone to get over there, like those I have read have inspired me.

    Cheers

I am leaving Thursday morning for a overnight ride to DV with my brother-in-law and my wife's cousin. Doing the street version though. Should be great! We are staying in Furnace Creek at the Ranch on Friday night. I have never been through the area so I am looking forward to it :D .

OH yes. Since the first time I went - April 2007 - I've been back at least 12 times. I simply love it there. Every time I get a few days in a row, I head out. My wife is a good sport about it. She loves the challenge and the desert. It gives us time to take some chances and get to know ourselves a bit more.

    Fabulous.

I hope I see you out there some time.

This is a pictorial presentation from Feb 2008 - Death Valley - on the big bikes.

There is some Titus Canyon, West Side, Teakettle Junction, Race Track, Salt Creek, and such. First time for my wife in the dirt on the Dakar... She did great; never dropped it and smiled the whole time. :D

And the Saliva soundtrack is pretty cool too! :1drink

Okay, thought I'd add some pictures from our Trip in Mid-March. Some pretty nice conditions if I'm honest. Loved it.

Teakettle Junction under the clouds gives some very interesting tones:

One question I have is; There are only kettles there from fairly recent travelers. How come? Does the park service remove them after a time or do other travelers remove them? My wife and I were wondering about this.

Heres a nice one of my wife; she's very poised on the Dakar and makes it do great things.

    See for yourself:

Each day we went out riding we always said, "Okay last night was the last night we ride past sunset". But somehow we always did... always thinking, "Just a few more minutes down this road" or "just a few more pictures here" or "hell with it, we'll do better tomorrow." :huh

There's just too much to see and so little time to see it - even if you have multiple days to ride... it's a real jungle and I don't know how we struggled through the trauma of it :lol3

Seriously if I didn't need a vehicle to haul my snot gobblers around and to school etc and I could only have ONE vehicle period; I'd ditch all for it. :evil

This one is of Race Track Road moving north. The sunset (that again; seems to be a recurrent issue) is fast approaching. Fantastic.

We took probably 1,000 pictures at the Race Track; she took the good ones :lol3

Here's one of my favorites - Perhaps I'll post one or two because when it comes to photography; I'm a fan! :D

This is an extraordinary place if you get the chance. I saw some people walk out to the rocks; walking right over the trails that take forever to appear and forever to heal footprints in! Anyway they walked out, pulled out a cellphone, took a picture, and walked back to their car...

Not to appear (hopefully) aloof, but damn, sometimes your have to stop and smell the roses (or rocks) and take stock of where you're standing... dunno, could be I'm an asshole.

Seriously I think when you're on the Playa you might want to take some very good care of the place you're in; I mean for God's sake leaving marks that take years to repair really does ruin the place for those coming behind.

:pynd .....steping off of my soapbox here... sorry about that. :lol3

Here's a shot from last weekend; Panamint Valley along Indian Springs Road towards Golar Wash. This picture doesn't really capture it but there it is...

Here's a funny (at least to me :evil ) picture. We were making our way through Titus Canyon in Late February... We'd stopped to take on some water and to get my wife settled into her Dakar/fairly new to nobbies/fairly new to the sandy-rocky conditions. She was a trooper; really, fearless!

Anyway, along comes some people in a small SUV... They say, "I think I just ran over a part from your bikes". I am confused until he says, "A piece of black plastic."

I know immediately what he's talking about; the little plastic scoop that purportedly keeps mud and other debris from the back of the rider... can't remember the technical term for it; mud flap maybe. Either way, it'd lasted me to that point for 12500 very hard (I think) miles, and it's one of those parts on the GS that you "either take off or break off" (as a man put it to me a few hours later when we were talking about it). Suffice it to say, I didn't shed a tear over it; I did, however, take a picture - hopefully in the proper ADVRider style! :D

Every time we go to Death Valley it's imperative we visit the tiny Pup Fish at Salt Creek. Pretty nice to watch the evolution; or more appropriately de-evolution of the creek and the various water levels.

Amazing creatures the Pup Fish. They live and breed and die in a tiny section of the creek where they lay their eggs and then burrow into the mud when the water goes away - which it does every May or so - until the rains and the waters of fall/ winter. When you think of the life that once teemed in the lake (Lake Manly) that used to be Death Valley and the fact that only a few species adapted to the saltier and more harsh conditions that now exist, it's amazing to see them!

And now to take a break from the Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom for a second :stoned

This is just a shot of the walkway... again if you go it's important to stay on the walkway to preserve the environment.

You know it just occurred to me: I'm really not a dope smoking, sandal wearing, commie or anything... I'm really quite the opposite but you know I feel this is important stuff.

    >...Editorial OFF!
