So, a couple of weeks back (wanted to post sooner but welcomed my daughter on the 19th) I had a Deer jump out from my left and get whalloped by my Left Pannier. These were stock Panniers, and it ripped the one on the left off, ripped the pannier bracket 3 ways from Sunday, bent my subframe (Actually bent my passenger foot pegs which are on the subframe) and did some minor cosmetic damage. The BIGGEST surprise however... I didn't go down. This was my first close call on a Bike and although I muttered a few expletives, and was all over the road, nearly in the ditch on both sides of the road, I came out still on top of my Bike and didn't go down. Hell, I even made the Ferry to get to work and then put in a full day at work. Had to go back that night to grab what was left of my pannier and also to get whatever I could find that came shooting out of it (lost a nice insulated coffee mug). Progressive insurance (USAA doesn't do motorcycle here in Washington) came out and I was more than impressed. $2400 after my $500 deducible. Deer whistles are now on the bike and Jesse Bags are going to be ordered next month!

The big brown furry carp can indeed ruin your day.
Ride safe, glad you are still intact. Don't trust the signs....

(they are entirely capable of crossing from left to right as well!)

i too hit a deer 1 week ago and hit it's neck with the front tire at approx. 45 mph....by some miracle I did not go down. the lower altrider bars hit his body and threw it to the side of the road like a sack of potatoes. (dead deer) repairs came in at $2019.00 and am awaiting the insurance company to settle (American family). hope that is next week as I am missing the sept riding temps!

Bike slid 60 -70 yards., all the damage was from the deer... NO DAMAGE from sliding down the road, rode bike home 150 mi.
