Just saw this clip on Youtube. Back story is that this youtuber was lent the Ducati to film some videos and he ends up wrecking a practically brand new Panigale that does not belong to him.

Do you think he had time to stop or avoid this crash? I think that if he had been scanning he would have seen the van turning and had plenty of time to move to the left or brake enough to avoid the crash. None the less, sucks he went down. Never like to see that but he went for the "gap" and lost.

It sucks to see a rider go down... But this was his fault 100%.

He comes around a bend/rise going what looks like too fast for an urban area and the minivan was already pulling out. Maybe the minivan should have waited, but it looks to me like there was in all probability a clear line of sight for the van when they started pulling out. Regardlless, the rider had an eternity to react to the developing situation. His reaction was to be a dick and pass on the inside. It is quite obvious to me that he chose to make a close pass on purpose. He just didn't anticipate the van pulling over (or maybe just driving close to the curb; it's difficult to tell).

Even if I'm wrong and he wasn't obviously attempting a close inside pass, he should have been quicker to react. If he wasn't purposely attempting the dangerous close pass, he was daydreaming. Not saying he deserved it, because he didn't, but he definitely could have avoided it.

Did he have time to avoid that? Absolutely.
He didn't need to overtake that van. He could have slowed down and staybe behind the van, or overtaken them in the left lane (rather than on the shoulder).
Instead he comes off the throttle for a second, then sees the gap and throttles up again. Doesn't even begin breaking until he is in danger next to van.
    Error in judgement IMO.

Pretty noobish move to 1.) not be looking far enough ahead to see the van pull out and 2.) not use those massive Brembos for what they're made for. A lot of it says inexperienced rider to me.

Also interesting that he has his speed blurred out. Doesn't even really look like he's going especially fast.

Dude was too preoccupied with his own awesomeness to pay attention to what he was doing. He had time there to throw out an anchor, much less use the brakes.

Absolutely could've avoided it, but as I understand it unless you know him it doesn't belong in Face Plant. Mods might kick it over to perfect line.

What kind of idiot passes a vehicle on the inside, on a city street?

The douche rider got what he deserved. The bike didn't deserve it.

Easily avoided. Riding too fast in an urban area. Looks like an attempt to pass of the right, rather than brake. Glad I had not lent rider MY bike!

Plenty of time to react, 100% avoidable. You can see in the second view, just after he passes the first van on the right, the second comes into view and makes no stop at the light. By the time the second van is fully into the street, he still has about 150-200' to react.

I'm betting if he passed the first van on the left, the second van would have seen him in plenty of time. Looks to me they saw him at the last second and was pulling to the right to give him more room for a left pass.

The van was wrong but the biker was way wronger!! :lol3

First, notice the speedometer is blurred out. He is going way over the speed limit is my guess. I checked both video's. He had a full 4 seconds to slow down. He doesn't even get off the gas until 3 seconds. Count 1, 2, 3 gorilla. That guy deserved what he got. To bad the bike got messed up. In town like that I cover my brake anyway. Anyone with half a brain would have at a minimum gotten off the gas the second the van was at the curb line. My guess is he had no intention of slowing down or stopping. He planned exactly what he did. To shoot by on the right. He is lucky there was not a tree where his head was. He could have had a head tree collision. And thus Darwin could have thinned the herd of the weak minded...

I watched it again. He even accelerated to pass...

In before the move to perfect line. Passing on the right? Yeah, that's not gonna buff out. I don't think he'll try that again.

Hey, midtown Atlanta! That's the corner of Peachtree and 11th - right here. It's normally very busy there, weird to see it so deserted.

He didn't even head check left.. it seems like he had plenty of time to pass on the left OR to brake. Indecision -> crash.

Passing on the right on a street that changed to two lane (one lane each direction). Why's anyone surprised about the crash?
