Rode down. Don't own a trailer and the DR doesn't need one. Trying to make my butt accustomed to touring on that thing but my butt normally selects the Tiger for trips. That has to change. I've done the Seat Concepts conversion and that helps...somewhat. 4-7 hours and 200+ miles aren't a big deal but day after day trips of 300+ per day are what I'm worried about. There are so many trips where I've wanted the DR with me but was afraid to try. My question is always this: if I were to make the Alaska trip or Baja which bike would I want to take. The DR is always the one that I'd like to have along...if it were just a bit more comfortable. I'll ride it to WV sometime soon, see how that goes and then just add another day each time I wander further. If I can get comfortable riding it to the Smokies then I'm good to go with it. I met an inmate in Utah a few years ago on a DR350. He was from CT and left the same day I did on my Tiger. He was already parked at Canyonlands when I got there. Sure he was was much younger but damn, a 350 beat me to Utah? And he had an additional 150 miles or so to travel. That really made me rethink things.
