This is just a quick note, too see if there is any interest from outside of Sweden for this nav rally/boot camp/fun event...
a bit short notice, but due to a few drop outs and a bit less than the usual subscriptions this year, we are offering a few
last minute places on this (usually invitation only) annual navigation bash; :deal

Southern Sweden (Skåne/Blekinge) the 28th/29th/30th September 2012.

DIRTY WEEKEND LONG ... a tradition since 2005, for diehard road book junkies to gather and do a heap of navigational riding together.
The weekend includes everything from night navigation routes, longer 100 to 150 km navigation stages on combination of gravel and forest roads,
with up to five or six enduro and motocross special tests thrown in, held over a three day (two night) camp out format. The forest bivouac at night
includes accomodation in one of three 12 person tents (with wood stove), catering and gear transport, with lot's of laughter, food / beverage
and socializing around the camp fire.

A link to a thread from last years event; http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=737827&highlight=Dirty+Long+Weekend

DLW 2012 total mileage is between 700 and 750 km, all navigated by roadbook (except MX and enduro tests), so your registered/insured and licensed bike
needs to be equipped with a roadbook and tripmeter, as well as lights that allow you to navigate the night stages (it will be pitch dark).

The event is limited to 30 participants. At present we have 15 signed on (plus the four members of the organising team) so ideally we need a (minimum)
of six more riders, and up to 15 places that are available.

Riders will be teamed up in groups of three and participate in both team and individual challenges throughout the weekend.

Cost for this whole spectacle is 180 EURO... Swedish.Moto-Safari.se provide for the transport of your gear over the weekend,
all tent and bivouac logistics/catering and a Sweep rider/service vehicle service.

In order to get things organised we need to know by no later than friday the 24th of august WHO/HOW MANY are coming to ride,
and get all in place (as far as payments etc.) before the end of August.

So if you are genuinely interested in being a part of this adventure (most of the Swedish participants in the TUAREG Rallye have used this event
previously as an end of season warm up/bike test for their rally preparations)
then PM me (I can send you more information/details) or post a question up on the DLW 2012 thread in VENDORS forum. :deal

Yeah...!? :clap And we could have bacon and egg sandwiches... if we just had some bacon...:brow ... and some eggs?

Oh... and we'd have to buy some bread, of course...? :dunno

What I mean is... it'd be optimal - and one of the prerequisites is - that you have a bike ready for this event. :lol3

Thats a shame Sakke, here is some places I checked out for the upcoming edition... :evil:deal

DLW 2012 - final recce:

I had a bit of recce work to do for the upcoming "Dirty Long Weekend Navigation rally" at the end of September... :evil
So feeling positive about the weather forcast/riding conditions for the weekend, I packed up the MTB/Hybrid late last friday afternoon,
and headed off from Trelleborg to the nearest rail station (Svedala 25 km away) and took the train up to the north/east of Skåne...
the city of Kristianstad. :deal

On dusk I made camp just 15 km north of Kristianstad, near Bäckeskog castle...

Breakfast in the morning sunshine, I had a view across the castle ground and the lake...

Then an early morning 35 km road ride up past Ivö lake to the village of Vånga...

Just outside Vånga at the local gravel/sand quarry/enduro track, I met up with some of the local enduro club guys,
and helped them out with some timed training (in preparation for a big Swedish national enduro event -
"Ränneslättsloppet" - coming up this weekend). :deal

The 12 riders flogged around the pines and sand for two and half hours... worked up a sweat...

It was pretty casual... :lol3

Then I pedalled off northwards into the woods to check some stuff out... :deal

Curios thing bicycling... I've ridden/driven this road maybe 50 or 60 times the last eight years or so...
never noticed this only 50 meters off the road... a lock between lake Immeln and Fylkinge lake... "Edreström".

View from the lock; :deal

You don't see "Mullvad" (Moles) very often... this one was suffering from a severe case of roadside lawnmower concussion...:huh
that's the only reason I caught him on camera.

Check out this really quaint little "grill hut" in the middle of the woods.. :deal

Thumbs up... by night I had 145 km'sof route in the saddle (friday/saturday) for the day and was looking forward to making camp.

The lakeside amenities...

Morning bathing facilities... :D

I spent most of the morning riding about 35 km's of forest trails...
double checking what will ultimately be a "night navigation" excercise...
Fun finding your way through the woods in pitch dark!

These two photo's are actually of a little place we call the "Velodrome-cross".
A short little 250 meter banked circuit in the middle of the woods... a dirt velodrome in the forest!

My final destination (recce wise) was the Lars Dufwa roadhouse in Osby...
from Osby I took the train back to Malmö...
but I had managed to logg 205 km's of route over the saturday/sunday

From Malmö it was an easy 45 km's along the coast back to Trelleborg...
I stopped at skare boat harbour along the way to enjoy the view.
Home again by 17:00 pm with about 275 km's of training under the belt for the entire weekend. :D

With three Tuareg Rallye's and an Australian Safari on his resumé, as well as years of club MX competition under his belt, Micke is far from inexperienced. Co-incidentally it was his (younger) brother Åmme (Anders) who carted off the DLW perpetual HTFU trophy last year... but neithe of these guys are spring chickens any more... I guess sometimes experience combined with riding skill is more than a match for young bucks that bite of more than they can chew! :D So these two brothers have stamped their own brand of experience and authority on this annual event and made it their own! :lol3

Well done to Micke and all the others who participated in DLW 2012... here is a selection of some photo's from the weekend showing (a bit) of what we got up to...

PS: all photo's courtesy of my son - Deputy Drill Sargent - Camron (8 years old) who was along for the entire weekend... his fourth DLW navigation rally in a row! :thumb
