Schoharie County to the north is rich in dual sport roads. This route starts in Cobleskill, goes up over the hills for a long dirt section on Patria Road, picks up several state forest roads on the way to Stamford, where it continues on parts of the Catskill Turnpike, then hops back over the hill to the valley of the west branch terminating near the end of the Cannonsville Reservoir.

This route starts from I81 near Lenox, winds through scenic terrain near Elk Mountain, visits a hatchery, then picks up the old Stockport Turnpike, then finishes winding around the main branch of the Delaware, the east branch and the west branch. At the end is the River Run restaurant, which has surprisingly good food for a rural restaurant. I am posting this from memory with preparation for spring, I might not have all of the dirt sections marked accurately.

I updated the ToHaleEddy map to more accurately show the dirt sections. I also rerouted around Memorial Links Rd and the O&W ATV trail east of Union Dale as they are "closed".

I just wanted to say thanks for these.

I'm kind of new to dual-sport riding, but my family has a place in White Sulpher Springs (between Livingston Manor and Liberty in Sullivan Cty) and I went to college in Oneonta. My roommates and I spent a lot of time exploring between Walton, Delhi, Deposit, and north towards Cortland, but that was 20 some-odd years ago already. I would love to explore some of these routes when I get a chance. Next time I'm heading up towards the Finger Lakes, I'm going to try your Beerston to Ithaca route!

All of my tracks are now color coded and packed into a MapViewer at this URL

    http://108.161.133.196/CatskillRides.jar

You will need Java, the viewer is a signed jar file that is executable. It supports zoom via the slider or a mouse scroll wheel, dragging with a mouse, and selection of tracks via buttons on the bottom pane. The tracks are color coded red=dirt, blue=scenic, green=two track, black = blacktop

Thanks again cannonsville. I'll be in Hamden with my DRZ this weekend if anyone wants to hook up for a day of riding Friday or Saturday.

I updated the old posts with tracks with links to the web app for that track. There are are 5 more tracks now, too, so I also renamed the thread to Dirty Octopi of Delaware County because a map with all the tracks plotted looks like two octopi mating.

Last year someone asked me for a route to the Unadilla MX track and I didn't have anything North of Sidney. That has been corrected. I am afraid they might close some of the roads though, Rock Calhoun Rd. is almost too good to be true, it is a seasonal road that joins Rt 8 just North of the track. It would be a great way to escape the traffic if it is open.

Dingmans Ferry to Downsville was intended to start in Stroudsberg, but that plan was spoiled by a gate on Snow Hill Road. Dingmans Ferry Bridge was chosen as the starting point because there is much to explore on the East bank of the Delaware River, including Old Mine Road, Stokes State Forest and High Point State Park. After crossing the toll bridge, there are some paved back road connectors, with two nice forest dirt segments (Flat Ridge Rd and Highline Rd) , then a scenic section by the Lackawaxen River, some dirt sections around the Delaware River with a nice segment on Horse Brook Road and Campbell Brook Road, finally finishing at the rustic Schoolhouse Restaurant in Downsville. This track was revised on 4/27/2015 per recommendations from AdvRider Econowatch, thanks Marcus!

The Equinunk South track is a 55 mile section that takes advantage of the sparsely populated terrain south of Equinunk with a nice dirt section on Equinunk Creek Road, and Swamp Road, then proceeds with some paved connector roads to another nice section on Mush Paw Road, and ends with a scenic twisty section along the Lackawaxen River that terminates at Roeblings Aquaduct bridge next to the Zane Grey museum with the Minisink Battlefied historical site nearby.

The Palenville_RockRift track starts with a little hike to the overlook at the former site of the Catskill Mountain House in the state run North-South Lake campground. The view overlooking the Hudson valley is well worth the day use fee. The track drops out of the Catskill on a twisty segment of RT23A at Kaaterskill Clove, then re-ascends on on what is essentially a paved goat path, Platte Cove Road. This is followed by a long scenic segment through Stony Notch clove, a geologically young valley eroded by meltwater at the end of the last ice age and another scenic section over Slide Mountain (2nd highest paved road in NY). The track detours to pickup dirt on Old Hunter Road, then meanders on some dirt roads south of Rt 17 between Livingston Manor and East Branch. At East Branch, it picks up the old railroad bed through Tommenix state forest, which is just slippery enough when we to be considered a challenge section. At Shinhopple, the track ascends Bearspring mountain, descends Beers Brook Road, ascends Houck Mountain and finishes with a seasonal dirt road on Carcass Brook.

The Woodstock_RockRift track starts in Woodstock, ascends Meads Mountain Road, goes around Cooper Lake, crosses scenic Ashoken reservoir, then ascends into the Catskills on the twisty scenic Peekamoose to Sundown. The track detours around the Roundout Reservoir with a stop at the Eagles nest viewing area, then climbs the steep and twisty Glade hill, then meanders on the back roads to Fishs Eddy and over the hill to Rock Rift. There are three primitive sections, Conklin Hill Road, Johnston Road and Rock Rift Mountain road, all are relatively big bike friendly.

Cant wait until summer so I can check these out. I've been looking for a good route up to Pepacton Res from my area in North NJ and the Dingmans Bridge to Downsville route looks perfect.
