Went to Moab for a couple of laps around Slickrock trail on my 530.

DNR shows up at least an hour after the ride and my bike had been loaded.

I was just standing in the parking lot, visiting with a couple of other riders from C. Springs. At the time we were the only ones in the lot.

The DNR boys proceeded to give us all tickets for operatiing an OHV without a Utah use sticker.

Kind of a chicken shit ticket, I think.

WTF!! Does this work even if we weren't riding at the time and the bikes were loaded up?

Oh and I buy a sticker every year (sans this year) and pay for day use of the slickrock trail.

If you have a bike on national forest in colorado whether it is in a truck or not you have to have a sticker by law, even if you don't plan on riding. Thems the rules. :deal

Yep silly rules but that is them. I always wondered what if you had a huge toy hauler and passing through and only planned to ride one bike and the others were not to ride there but elsewhere on your journeys...it does seem like a rule that makes no sense.

As stated its the rule....So how much is the ticket? Are we talking $40 or $200!!!

Actually I didn't know that. Where do you get a sticker for CO?

    Is your 530 plated?
    How much was the ticket?

    Sorry about your luck :(:

On the Western Slope, the typical "gettin place" is in Fruita, at the state park. You can get them at many of the motorcycle dealerships, RV dealers..Utah sticker can also be had at Centennial RV in GJ.

I "VERY rarely" ride my bike beyond the offroad enviro. My 530 is not plated. But, it is insured.

Someone told me to "at least" do this, above all.

I'm sure the rangers just like to see paperwork, above all, and this has a calming effect on them.

They either wrote based on "intent", or while they were talking to you, you had confessed to riding earlier.
I'm fairly certain Utah is the same as CO in that regard.

If I had a biek in my truck and they wrote me an intent ticket, I would absolutely fight it. If I had admitted to riding, albeit earlier, I lost. . . .

I obviously took the "law" for granted.

Apparently, riders used to be able to buy one sticker and use it in UT and CO. The DNR rangers admitted that it was better the old way. One of them mentioned that Utah.Gov was opposed to going with seperate tags, but the Democratic government (at the time, Ritter?) in Colorado pushed it through.

We ride "practically" year around in Grand Junction. Being 1.5 hours to Moab, San Juans, Vail and all points in between make it a phenomenal place to live if you are active and love outdoor sports. Some of my favorite riding straddles CO/UT border. On a single ride, you can weave back and forth into either state, and there are really no lines or markers, just dead reckoning. I rarely see or encounter the rangers.

if you were plated would you have received the ticket - or was it an OHV tag violation only?

I have never been questioned in Utah. Mine is plated. I have been slowed, thought I was going to be stopped. They stopped the others, but waived me on. The others were not plated, just stickered. Not sure if this was just luck, or the rules. I asked once, the 2 officers looked at my bike, said "you have a plate, your legal". They were cops, county sheriffs. But now its all about how much extra tax we can generate. Has nothing to do with the law.

a few years ago we were camped up at Slickrock and the bikes at camp got inspected by the ranger. One was untagged because the rider wasn't sure if he was going to ride or not on that trip, hadn't bought the sticker. Ranger had him just load it back in the trailer and he got a warning. We have been checked on trails too, and plates seemed to pass in place of stickers. I get the annual sticker anyway (the Maverick Gas Station on the north end of town is easisest) because it supports the trails and elimintates any of the gray area concerning legality of plated bikes off road that may not conform to Utah's laws of plated motorcycle. Hopefully the fine wasn't too bad!

I say go whole hog, no lights, no tag, through town on one wheel stickerless like these boyz

Seriously, just kidding, I don't advocate breaking the law. We all push the envelope in some way or another, sometimes you win, sometimes you loose, and yes, loosin sucks!

    LOL

Seen those type of videos before...funny what they call talent and they all only do Wheelies I would like to bring one of them out to CO and ride a trail and watch them panic. I guess that is a good extreme example of what people will do if no where to ride...LOL
