We did a fair amount of traveling last year, but far less than I would have liked. The many changes that were going on in our lives that necessitated our being in Iguala prevented much of what we had wanted to do. By year end I had spent 157 days or 43% of the time traveling. Of course, almost half of that was going to and from TX/MS visiting family and Modesta cannot yet accompany me on those trips! We did get a new moto in December, but have only put 2,500 miles on it and most of that was riding it from Mississippi to Iguala.

We took our first ride of the year yesterday to Cuernavaca and back. It was only 140 miles. We have a lot of general riding plans for 2017, but not a lot of specifics. Modesta has never been out of Mexico, so hopefully after she gets her papers in the next couple of months we will do quite a bit of traveling in the USA! We will also do some moto camping! We will do a trip down through Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. Plus the two most northerly states of Mexico and both states of Baja which she has not visited yet.

Stay tunes, because hopefully we will do a lot more traveling this year as a couple! But, has had been the trend for me this last few years, the trips will normally be less miles and more smelling the roses. We look forward to it and will be honored if you come along!

Estaba a sólo 140 millas.

Nice bike, let us know how the African Twin compares to the KTM 990.

We left Thursday to take a ride, but about 15 miles out of Iguala we passed two moto travelers on the side of the road. We did a u-turn and came back to visit with them. It was the father/son team of David and Brent Swezey. They were riding a KTM 500 and a Suzuki DRZ400S. We talked for a while and then Modesta suggested we go back to the house and continue talking so we did.

Dave and Brent stayed a couple of days with us and we all had a great time! They have been traveling in Mexico for two months, much of that in Baja. They will continue to travel in Mexico for the next month, at which time, the wife and mother to the duo will fly into Cancun for a two week visit. Dave and Brent will continue on down to Panama. There they will separate with Dave returning home to Washington state and Brent continuing on to South America, Europe, Africa and elsewhere on a two year plus ride!

We left Iguala today at 1:00, went by friends of the family and folks that Dave and Brent had met, spent time in their home and been out to lunch with, to say bye.

We then took back roads across the state, headed east to Izucar de Matamoros. The route used is not advisable for cars or street motos. Besides the normal pot holes and speed bumps, there are numerous cave ins on the road, all kinds of livestock, and one location where floods had washed the road away. In other words, it is my favorite road in the area and was the third or fourth time Modesta and I have ridden it! We separated at Izucar de Matamoris, we had a much longer ride to return home than they had planned. We arrived home a few minutes after dark and rode 235 miles for the day.

We plan to be leaving in a few days for ten days or so of traveling. We have been doing some day trips since the first of the year and have put an additional 1,000 miles on the moto. I have the suspension adjusted and ready for some traveling trials.

The new departure date is Saturday! We have been a full week getting a new tag for our car! Nothing is easy in Mexico when it involves their government!
