:clap Made it! Wanted to get out here for quite sometime, don't know what the hell took me so long...I'll be back soon :nod

The flag covering my plate is part of the GS Venture Challenge that my local BMW dealer put together. This trip made me one of, if not the, first finisher of the challenge. I guess I get a cool member's only jacket out of it?! :deal :D Link for interested parties...LINK

Some beautiful meadows along the sides of the road

After a quick visit to Kennedy Meadows it was to Black Rock Station and onto the trail head...I will come back here with the family for a hike and camp  Chatting up a girl around the corrals she said their were hot springs within two miles of the TH :clap Wasn't going to hike it in the Tech 3 boots, but I will be back

Real nice job building these...all these horses belonged to the same girl who talked to me about the trail

Had a nice conversation with a guy and gal on a WR250 in the Black Rock lot. He asked if I was riding the trails on the F800...nope..fully loaded and by myself I didn't feel it the best idea...See? I am becoming an adult :eek1 Next time, with an audiance I will ride some of the easy stuff...or better yet, trailer my 350 up here and ride all of it :nod...yeah I like that better...

He said I could definitely ride the Monache Jeep Road and gave me directions to it..apparently I passed it earlier, but someone had taken target practice on the sign and it was about blown away.

Rated Easy...let's see how it goes

Not bad, little loose and whooped out, but totally doable on the big bike

When it opened up, I was super stoked :clap:clap:clap

I was having a blast running around the different roads

Two roads diverged in a wood,(or meadow) and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference (dead ended at a Rancher's locked gate) :D

After running around meadow for awhile I decided I would stay...feeling a little weary from all the miles pounded the day prior and today..I wanted to rest...so around 3pm I stopped to set camp

First thing out of the panniers was the ENO hammock :D

Changed out and got a little swing time..

Those puffy dark clouds were making another appearance as I swung in the hammock...I figured I woud take a nap, if I woke up by getting wet I would pack up and haul out of there...I came down some pretty steep terrain to get here...not knowing how it would hold with the rain was on my mind

Well the rain never came and I slept for about 30 minutes...

The dark clouds turned to happy little white clouds during my slumber

The only thing that needed some improvements with this campsite were the flies...they were relentless...the only escape was to keep moving, smoke didn't bother them, bug spray was Bianca and swatting at them just got em excited...so, I kept moving, pacing like a crazed person the whole time in camp :eek1

Inspiring. I'm in SoCal and have cruised around that area via google maps, contemplating a voyage up that way to see the area. This RR made my mind up for me. If anything though, I'll wait to do it until I get a dual sport. The sportbike couldn't get everything there is to offer from that area - while the ride on pavement looked fun, as soon as you hit that jeep trail it just became flat out epic.
I really like the hammock solution for sleeping. Any issues with it? Aside from the limitation that you need two trees for it to work, so it's not ideal for a stay out in a desert among tumble weeds ;)

:wave Ryan :thumb Thanks, glad you foun some inspiration in the report. I did too :lol3 and plan to be back up there before too long..I feel about the same, next time I will head straight to dirt, no more screwing around the National Park...I think I am much more of a National Forest kind of guy.

As far as the hammock, it's an ENO Pro Nest with Pro Slap Straps. It breaks down to two packages, one about the size of a large apple and the other a one pound bag of Twizzlers...the red, not the licorice :puke1 It is completely open to the air, so bugs can be an issue. Of course they sell a bug netting to go over it or you could go with a Hennessy Hammock. I have one of those too and it is real nice, heavier and bulkier but has built in bug netting and rain fly. Sleeping in a hammock is also a cooler option than tenting it with a good ground pad. Again, they make under quilts and all sorts of foul weather options for hammocks, I have the winter kit for my Hennessy, but haven;t used it yet. The sleep I have gotten in a hammock is pretty damn good, literally rock me to sleep and it is easier on my old bones then the ground. Folks who are stomach sleepers may have an issue, face down bent up like a pretzel might be some folks definition of fun...but for sleeping...eh not so much. It does need two attaching points...mostly trees are used, but nothing says you can't use something else...one could be off the bike's rear end on the center stand and the other a sign pole....no end to possibilities...I bring my hammock to the desert, but it not my only option in the panniers..I use it more for lounging and naps..I only overnight if the temps are high...the night I slept in it this trip it was in the mid 70s that night.

    Couple of links for you
