Anyone out there ride a BV500? Don't see many comments about this awsome machine. I have a 2006 and have nothing but good things to say about it. There are small problems, like the leaking coolant, but other than that, I love this bike. Took the evap canister off which solved an idling problem. This bike is powerful and well as a beautifully designed machine. I think the style beats 'em all.

I looked at the BV's when I was shopping last summer. I considered getting it until I saw the scoot I have now. But the Kymco more like it than not. Large wheels but and a "scooter" look with the flat floor and front end.

I have a bv200 and just love it. 16,000+ miles. Its been a great scooter. Looking at a bv250 right now. The 500 is an awesome scooter. Very powerful. I like the bv's with their larger wheels and the Piaggio build quality is second to none.

My wife bought an '07 Aprilia Scarabeo 500ie this fall. Its the same drivetrain and basic set up as the BV500. It does have more underseat storage than the BV. Both 500's are fast and still more classic scooter looking to me (esp. compared to the Silverwings, Burgmans and TMaxs) without being overly retro. Very Italian! It made my friend with a Vespa 300 GTS jealous!

I also have a 2006 Bv500. It is a great ride. Unfortunately, since I bought my Dual sport bike, It just sits in my garage on a trickle charger.

I had a very fun test ride on a BV500. Great, classic styling, very nice acceleration and comfortable. I drag raced a Chevy V-8 pickup truck from stoplight to stoplight on the BV test ride and spanked him every time. He and I were both amazed.

Durdle.....what kind of coolant leaks have you had on the BV500???

The water pump, hose clamps, hoses themselves, hoses rubbing through, or something else???

    Hey Fried Okra,
My leak is from the bleed hole in the water pump housing. It's the little small hole in the casting behind the plastic water pump cap. I have had the ceramic seals replaced inside the pump, but still leaks a bit. I just top off the coolant occasionally.

That appears to be a problem others have had too. I thought mine was leaking there also but turned out to be the hose/clamp from the pump to the top of the engine.

I replaced the clamp and that fixed it for a while, but is leaking again there. I also had to replace the clamp on the top of the engine but is leaking again now as well. My hose appears to be very weather checked.....from the factory.....compared to the other hoses on the scoot.

I'm gonna replace the whole hose now :)
