I can't believe a whole year has gone by and it's time for the Fall Antique MC show in Luckenbach with Willie, Waylon and the boys. I've attended the last five years and it keeps getting bigger and better. Not only are there a plethora of vintage bikes, a trials competition is also held with Texas native Kevin Schwantz present the last couple of years. Many dual sport, ADV, hooligan, hipster, and scootertista's enjoy the great autumn weather with Dale Watson's rock-a-billy music this year as well as an outdoor drive-in theatre set up for motorcyclists featuring MC movies of course!

Not only are current trials bikes competing but vintage trials as well.

The bike show is the highlight however and you never know what you will find from customs to many vintage and classic motorcyles, something for everyone.

My good friend MacDaddy organized an excellent dualsport route through Ellis and Hill counties following substantial rain. While several days had passed since the bad weather, we assumed it would be reasonably dry...WRONG!

    MacDaddy

We met in a sleepy little community called Maypearl early and within blocks we were in back road delight.

Simmons 1 and I elected to ride sweep both being photo buffs so we could catch all the action.

Cluthcless and MacDaddy set a brisk pace all day.

Maypearl was in a nice valley with many tree lined roads and low water crossings.

We then hit farmland and the bordering roads were significantly tougher but fun!

We hit very little pavement but were surprised by this temporary traffic light in the middle of nowhere.

We crossed so many beautiful old bridges that were no longer in use.

MacDaddy said we would return on a dry day and run down the creek!

After a lunch break at Carl's Corner Texas, the real fun began. It seems that Hill county received much more rain than Ellis and the mud ensued. Jordan on the KLR was the first victim running wide on a turn, then Clutchless grabbed a handful and spun out. No harm no foul, just muck!

After recovering we split into two groups, the re-router's and the foolhardy's! Clutchless refused to let a little mud deny her from a great road so WhitneyMike, Simmons 1 and I followed into the great unknown (super muddy road!)

Simmons 1 had a mud slick at the end!

We stopped at the "cross roads" to decide whether to press on or cut the route short due to the conditions. Everyone began poking at their bikes with sticks for some reason?

Wasabi and his Husky seemed to have picked all the good lines as his bike had little mud!

Simmons 1 layered down and DRD and MacDaddy discussed strategy.

The finale was a flooded road that looked very intimidating but was in fact fairly easy as it had a hard bottom, but we all had much fun there, especially DRD on the largest bike (Weestrom) with the slickest tires!

Simmons 1 quick with his camera!

I had a blast MacDaddy, and can't wait 'til next time. Thanks!

I attended the Dallas IMS this weekend and was glad I left my checkbook home. This seemed to be the first good year of products following the economic downturn. A huge turnout! There were so many bikes I would have loved to buy, but the customs really stole the show. Instead of $100,000 choppers, now the trend is more towards garage built bob-jobs. These really aren't cobbled together but give that effect.

The mighty XR was perfect for negotiating Dallas traffic!

Adventure and Dual sport bikes were plentiful. Much buzz around the 2014 VStrom Adventure, but I was disappointed with the choice of "Integrated bags", everyone agreed they should use the Wee's awesome Trax panniers!

    Nice Twisted Throttle show bike!

Triumph didn't find the time to wash theirs!

Thanksgiving and sunny weather arrived after a week of pouring rain and cold weather, so I took advantage of a long weekend to ride of course! I went east towards the woods to look at the fall colors.

I suppose everyone was gobbling down turkey as I didn't see a soul all morning.

The creeks were flowing good and you could see where much flooding had recently occurred.

I crossed the mighty Brazos River and saw a trail leading underneath the bridge so I thought it would be a good time to take a break and explore...WRONG! Apparently the river had been way over it's banks and had receded then much leaf fall had covered all the silty mud. Not to mention the steepness of the trail towards the water.

A real "adventure" ensued! Here I am walking fast and looking worried, ha!

I got the XR on flat ground but had difficulty turning it around as there were many vines and undergrowth.

Finally after much huffing and puffing I prevailed and took my long awaited break!

An outstanding day in East Texas. Tomorrow, the West!

Friday dawned even nicer than Turkey Day so I drug my cohort WhitneyMike away from the dinner table out west to Goldthwaite. Radar had showed much rain there as well but I guess it just soaked up quicker. At least it wasn't dusty!

We found an awesome old low water crossing on a creek called Pecan Bayou. You could see it had seen it's share of floods over the years.

Next we passed through Indian Creek on the way to the mighty Colorado River.

We were a little disappointed as is wasn't much more than a trickle?

We monkeyed around for awhile seeing who could make the biggest splash, seems like the biggest bike won-the KLR.

I refused to be defeated and as I was turning for one final pass Mike kicked a rock out in front of me putting me on my ass...contest over! Just kidding Mike!

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/pt1nphgfg6Q" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

It was so beautiful there and no one around to laugh at us.

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/fTfk7F6wA4k" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

After a break it was off to explore the many trails in the area.

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ZvFf_U-zd5Q" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Mike tricked me down a slippery slope just to see me fail again!

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/JOk-oq0hkpc" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ekdGoYjGKAg" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

After all those shenanigans we elected to visit San Saba and a gas station. On the way we happened upon an awesome old 120 year old suspension bridge that had withstood 4 major floods, the Beveridge Bridge.

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/pffY5-1-64I" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Mike said he simply did not get enough water fun so I knew of one more Colorado River crossing that I hoped would be more challenging-Shaw Bend.

I let Mike go first secretly hoping for some carnage but it was not to be.

Thanks, Clod. You ride a little farther north than I do at the moment. I'll be exploring Elgin and areas within reach of that with my stock tank for now (Acerbis 5.3 gallon is on the horizon). With Mark, Jerry and some others in the area I know it'll be fun. I'm sure one of these days we'll meet up.

Santa answered my wish and gave me muddy conditions for my Christmas Day! It seems WhitneyMike has an affinity for mud as well so off we went to scenic Navarro county where the mud was plentiful.

I know what you're thinking Mike, "Where the hell are we?"

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/97NfCCwUTu0" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Well bear with me because in less than five miles we were on some awesome roads that were totally uninhabited.

It had been four days since the rain event but the creeks were still flowing and the ditches were standing full.

Our first tough section and Mike couldn't wait to go first!

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/irAEotQvo0o" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

You know what they say, the first cuts the deepest. After that we argued over who would be first to test the mud! "Look Mike what's up ahead!"

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/hZ47aGAb9Y0" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

We reached Henderson County and the Trinity River valley uneventfully, but that would soon change.

A road on the map that looked epic turned out to be impassable and we were routed onto a detour road from which we promptly made our own detour!

    My view:

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/YIYYJvrCbNw" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

    Mikes view:

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ckEiCNouLcU" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

We got lucky as the conditions were brutal! We headed for high ground and a well deserved break.

    But wait...what's that just ahead?

Knowing Mike's blind in one eye and can't see in the other, I tried to coax him into going first once again but he wasn't biting!
