After backtracking a bit we found more mud! Imagine that?

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/1ggPGfM75R8" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

We finally met our Waterloo when Mike declared "Hey, my wheelbearings just went out because my wheels stopped spinning!" No Mike, not wheelbearings, but MUD!

After poking fun at Mike, then poking mud on his bike, he got back at me when my back was turned by kicking my bike over!

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/HJxJp_n7nLA" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Just kidding! We sure had fun picking that pig up in the mud though. A Christmas to remember!

Ha! The "fun" ended when it was time to "clean" though.

Thanks for another great ride Mudclod.

I was glad to see you brought the V-Strom with a crappy rear tire. I figured that would level the playing field some (me with the nimble KLR). Not to be though.. Whenever I was in front my mirrors were full of what looked like a F-350 on my rear fender. When following, the constant threat of getting roosted existed. But I was a quick study on that from previous rides. Dispite your best efforts I went un-roosted.

Why Mike, I can't believe you think I would ever "roost" someone on purpose? ha! See you soon!

I just feel bad about the old lady with the walker, bless her heart she made it to her mailbox only to get hosed down.. I think she got up!

I finished 2013 off with an excellent trail ride in the Lost Pines of Bastrop. A Dual Sport enthusiast by the name of RollingJ invites a few friends occasionally to ride on some trails near his home. The weather was perfect and we had some moisture so let's roost!

We hit the powerline trail first to get everyone warmed up.

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Bspi_10zItg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Then we dodged some huge mudhole's in search of singletrack!

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/L01h661SOQs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

We had a great group of riders and stayed in a tight group all day with no problemo's. Even with the abundance of dead tree's (Logs!) crossing our path, the largest bike, a KLR 650 made sawdust of them!

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/gvW_JU2Bp9w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Gave us a chance for a well deserved break anyway.

We came upon a squatter's camp way out in the middle of the woods. What a life!

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/VXhyHXt5VG8" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

If chewing up logs wasn't enough for Chiricahua's KLR, he decided to do a little mining.

We had several sweet CRF's that were street legal but their dirt roots shined on this day. Here Fiddyk shows what that good suspension is for!

    Off to the sand sections!

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/XGbXRwExedk" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

    Sand is our friend! ha!

Off to the new trail sections and some moto-carnage.

    Devin drew first blood!

    Then Dad's turn!

I wanna play too. Nothing like a fresh 606 on a new to me XR650. Go ahead and get ya a handful son!

After much huffing and puffing it was off to Lookout Point over the mighty Colorado River for a scenic break.

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/0E-2-a6sPnQ" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Time to wrap it up with a little more tight singletrack.

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/TTHjtbM0Xq8" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Unfortunately we encountered the old squatter on the way back and words were exchanged. He spooked a couple riders who went down but were unhurt. I guess he wanted to let everyone know he was the Waldmeister. Oh well, we'll be back!

Ha! Yes he was asking me not to use the photo, but I assured him I would mention it was just a tip-over and not a crash.

I'm sure weather was on everyone's "radar" with the start of 2014 and the polar vortex. Perhaps the tip of Florida escaped it's wrath. Our low in Centex was 17* without wind chill and 70* a mere four days later! Let's ride!

Gulf moisture arrived with heavy rains in East Texas so it was off to Buffalo and surrounding areas for me.

Sand is prevalent and the moisture had packed it perfectly.

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/IPJ2GKCQQB8" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

The pavement was sweet as well with little traffic, but fortunately most of Freestone and Leon County is still unimproved.

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/J28bhFczxqE" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

After gassing up in Oakwood, I encountered my first dead end. The map and GPS showed road but not so any more.

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/0qVcBP_Qixw" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Even though the road may be short they're still worthwhile.

Off to the deep woods of the Trinity River Valley and a break among the tall pines.

Two thumbs up! (Well, one thumb and a beer.)

I happened upon a low swampy area where oil exploration had been going on and a plethora of trails.

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/0eE60a4RJgc" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Then while riding through land posted as "State Land" I encountered another dead end. Hey, I'm a taxpayer right? While the fence was in a sad state of dis-repair, I elected not to take a chance alone and pass through. I'd rather drag someone along with me if caught, ha!

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/M4i_w69czY4" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Just when I thought the ride was ending and I was almost back to Buffalo I decided to take a loop road off through the country and back to the same road I was on as a whim. It payed off in spades as it was the highlight of the day. While sitting at a crossroad contemplating the map a local pulled up in a truck and I asked for the quickest route into town. He pointed to the right surely knowing the condition of the road, but I'm so glad he did. It was brutal. No way a car or regular 4x4 could have made it. Only a modified vehicle (or a dirtbike) could have made it after the heavy rain.

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/XUMnsgbzBoQ" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

No way two vehicles could have passed each other on this "county road" ha! At the end was an awesome rutted hill climb and then-back to civilization I'm afraid.

    <IFRAME height=315 src="//www.youtube.com/embed/iEf9Eu2LKBw" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

The end of an awesome ride!
