I think i'll try this way first before i go down the engineer route
The fact that they are just robots filling the same shit out all day maybe a good thing. Lots of people are saying just put it in as an engine change and dont mention the fact that the engine's a twin.
Thanks for the info mate. Its the old school guys that no what there talking about. 3 out of the 4 engineers I have spoken to didn't seem to have a clue what they where talking about.
I'll give that fella a call next week to get some advice.
Stop chatting here u tart and sort out that Rallye bike u just happend to buy the other week
Will u be starting another thread
catch up soon Joe
Thanks to Gadget boy for renaming the thread and for letting it stay in thumpers.
The base model is a thumper, thats all that counts.
Good work Gadgetboy! God I love this thread.... I've had my license suspended for the last 5 months and it stuff like this that helps the stir-craziness. Thanks Joe
Glad i can help. What did you get done for
Accumulation of points, was traveling between Bundy and Brissy every week, lost the last few at Gympie at midnight mid week for driving straight through the Macca's carpark onto the road (on my bike) they were shut so I didn't stop, it was 6 deg and I was freezing so I just copped it. Should have argued it. Heartless barsterds followed me for a few K's before booking me, prob ran my plates and saw I was on a good behavior bond.
Itching to get back out there, makes me jealous reading all these ride reports.
now every one knows you shouldn't be on roads in gympie after 9pm your lucky they didn't take you away and use you in ritual killing.
you should be using this time to build your dream bike or you could just build an old heap of shit like mine
I dont know about the rules in QLD but here you can fill in the forms your self and the work (Frame welding) has to be done by a certified trades person(or if they think its up to standard) they can sign that bit off
the hic up you might run into is if they "go by" engine power to brake size instead of engine size to brake size as the GS500 probably? has more power than a DR650 engine if so you might have to get Motard type brakes
A Pommy mate of mine did a CB750 frame lengthened to fit a Howard 1000cc V2 engine in with a Matchless(i think) gearbox with a XS650 Yam ignition so the old rotary hoe engine would rev
End result was one registered bike........have fun and best of luck
Now I've looked at the form it does not ask for any engineers certificates all it wants to know is what work has been done.
I'm actually a certified welder so when i post them the form i will include a copy of my tickets.
I was told that if the power and weight of the engine was no more than 10% extra I would not need to do anything to the brakes but if it turns out they want me to out a bigger disc on I wont mind because I've been waiting for an excuse to do the motard disc.
Any updates ????
Nah sorry mate i've been getting my ktm 520 ready for the condo 750. I will start back on the beast sometime after Easter.
nice pipes!:) how much where the pipes?
$25 and then $50 postage (aud). For a matching pair of stainless pipes i think they where a bargain even if there a tad heavy.
Sounds bloody good, even with shipping from Ausi. I want a set of de-cated cans for my 950 Adv S (boiled my rear brake on a hot day in slow going). Next question then - where from? Also the stock SE cans look way better than the Adv cans.
I found them on ebay and the people i bought them off reckond they would fit all the ktm 950 / 990 ktm off road bikes.
If you took your mufflers to a welder he should be able to cut the cat out of them for you in 15 mins
Joe , when do we get to see some more pic's of the "BEAST":huh
Sooooooon i, hope when you have time .
I'll get back on the project soon.
