DR200 carb issue

    My wife's little DR200 got running shitty from not being ridden. I pulled the carb. It didn't look that bad inside. The one jet was clogged (low speed I think). I cleaned the clogged jet out but I didn't totally tear the carb down because it looked so clean otherwise. So I put it back together and it runs great....except now when you slow for a corner or to stop the idle increases substantially before returning to normal. Although I didn't mess with the float level I'm thinking that has to be it as I'm thinking it has to do with the fuel level changing as the fuel slops forward in the bowel when slowing. Any ideas?

    make sure there is PLAY IN THE THROTTLE CABLE and make sure its fully seated in the cap on the carb.. do ya have the idle set to high on the carb ?

    Do the checks.
    Make sure the throttle has enough slack for the carb to return to idle.
    Make sure the choke isn't hanging open a little.
    Make sure the carb boots are tight and there are no vacuum leaks around them.
    Idle should be set after a quick 10 to 20 minute warm up ride.
    A bad O ring on the needle seat or leaking needle can cause a high idle.
    High float level can also cause the same issue.
    The most common issue that causes high hanging idle is a severe lean condition.This is usually caused by a clogged low idle circuit or jet in the carb.Also,vacuum leaks around or inside the carb can cause the same issue.The jets are cheap for the DR so I would just change them.It's fairly difficult to completely clean the low speed jet.

    idle hanging up indicates a lean conditiion. either a vacuum leak or most likely the idle mixture screw is closed too much. lightly seat it and then open it up 2 turns out for starters. epa brass plugs needs to be removed if not done already.

    Thanks guys. At least initially it seems the throttle cable was too tight. That's after a short test ride in the neighborhood. Wife will have to give it a longer test. It seems that a tight throttle cable would make it run high all the time rather than just when slowing, but that seems to have done the trick.
