DR750 & DR800 owners thread

    Well, header is 1.5 but do not go for end can of 1.5.
    Go for 2 1/4 and weld adaptor on header or link pipe. I did that using Benelli Tornado tre can and happy with results
    Why? Because 1.5 cans are not ideal volume-wise for huge mono like DR.
    And avoid carbon. Please please, avoid carbon. And if possible - avoid "thin" and "superlight" exhaust.
    I have collection of photos from our DR colleagues with blown to bits supertrapps, carbon exhausts etc. - DR pulses are too much for carbon.

    Try to get stock exhaust can from laaaarge displacement sport, sport touring or roadster bike. One of finest ways to go - make and Y-link pipe and buy couple of oval stock aluminium end cans from Ducati Monster 900+. If you do that - I bet your bike will sound beatiful and engine will breathe OK.

    Look at the size of the exhaust tip opening....I sure would have liked to hear that enine run!!


    The rear axle/swingarm set-up is very nice. It looks like it would make rear wheel changes very easy.

    Taken as a whole, I'd say the Suzuki Dakar bikes are MUCH closer to the production machines. Yes there are some extensive airbox and suspension modifications...that would be expected.

    Photos of the Honda Africa Twin Dakar bikes show a machine that is very different from the prodution bikes.

    I'm happy to have a bike that is this close to the racing models.

    Now I just have to wait until Wednesday to actually own the machine.

    Quick ride-height question: I've owned an XTZ750, and that had an 860mm/34.5" seat. I only have a 30" inseam (on a good day). The Super Tenere wasn't too much trouble due to the slim seat and narrow tank.

    Will I have a problem with the DRBig?

    And, if so, are their solutions?

    In a word - no.
    I am shorty (170-172 cm, not sure what it is in feet-inch) with usual build and have no probs with DR as long as rear shock preload set to factory "standard" position.
    But even when I had to ride with my wife and wound preload up a lot I was able to ride on my own no probs.
    seems it all related to overall width of the bike, and DR is quite slim at rider seat position. If you had no probs wih S10 you will not have any with DR I am sure.
    If you tell me which exact model you are getting I can look up in manual standard shock preload setting.

    Ladder106, i'm also picking a Dr 750 up on Wednesday... 12 hour round trip to get it, just sourced kevlar rear tanks & kevlar main tank (as in Dakar) giving a total of 60 liters!!! Not cheap but wouldn't they be the dogs nuts :D

    Got an email this morning from Stefah Hessler to say that he can do them, i have no pics but maybe he has.... How cool would it be to have a Dr dressed out in black kevlar :D

    OK, I see...well, I can promise you one thing - judging by feedback I hear from everyone who used Stefan's stuff - he will do perfect job and you will be happy with results!

    Black kevlar...nah, paint it :) Paint it or people will think you are showing off :D

    (Said I looking at mental picture of my scratched scrappy looking DR next to kevlar-covered Dakar supermachine :lol3 )

    :rofl First thing to do is strip everything off & see what i've actually bought!! Snow & ice everywhere here at the moment so the drive to collect it will be an epic..... i hope to have something good by summer time so i'll post pics hopefully as i sort it, i can't resist that kevlar but i'm going to have to work at double speed to afford it!! Looking for a klx 650 now to swap forks

    good luck with your purchase and project!
    The KLX triple clamps have more offset than the stocks, so you will need to increase the rear preload to achieve neutral steering. You will also need to file-off the frame steering lock stoppers and re-weld them. Apart from these, its a straight fit.

    You will be suprised how easy to find them on ebay.de and how reasonable is price ;)
    120-150 Euro plus postage...just a hint ;)

    That bike was snapped up. The other one on ebay UK is at £1000 with 8 days left.

    My budget is small, so I might get priced out :cry

    there is excellent SR43 on sale there now - just seen it today, it was at something like 730 GBP "reserve not met" - that one looked just the business!
