    TMT,

I just did the same mod yesterday... removed the cannister, drilled out the fuel filler neck, and installed the S4 system. I wasn't completely empty, but was able to put 5.5 Gal. into the bike - right up to the top. When you fill your bike that full, you need to ride it right away or risk having the excess fuel potentially flow out - IF you're parked on an angle. After filling, I rode 30 miles then parked. The fuel level was then back to where I normally used to stop filling the tank - nice.

I'll experiment with the syphon properties of this thing in another 200 miles or so...

    Marc,

I don't have the S4 system, how much more range could that give me, if I'm already using 6.1 gal.?

The S4 thing siphons the fuel from the left lobe of your tank to the right lobe. When you drain your fuel down below the center rib, you then only draw from the right side of the tank. You can manually lean your bike over to the right and slosh fuel from the left side to the right, but it's inefficient and a pain. S4 does this for you...automatically. I don't know exactly how much fuel remains permanently trapped, but if you're running out and a gas station is 10 miles away, it sure beats walking.

The Adv GS solves this problem with a lobe to lobe cross-over tube built into the tank. Unfortunately, the regular GS's don't have this. The S4 solves this.

You could always stop, remove the tank, tip it all the way over to the right, reinstall and keep going, instead of walking, right?

Sure. IF you've remembered to install fuel line quick-disconnects and have a 6mm Hex with you. Otherwise, just drop the bike on its' right crash bar, wiggle it around a bit, pick it up and ride a bit further. :thumb

Overhere it's about € 1,25 a litre and that is a quarterly LOW price.
