Taking off from DC next week and heading down to the Asheville, NC area. Me and a friend are meandering down and back over 5 days. No plans and no itinerary.

Planning on using the skyline and blue ridge parts of the way.
Any side roads and out of the way places (of historical note) that are mentionable for being scenic and twisty? Thanks in advance for the recommendations or links to other posts.

Are you interested in off road routes or focused on pavement?

Thanks for the suggestions. We'll be on pavement. I'm usually on a GS but will be making this trip on my dad's RS.

    209 is great.

You don't want to just ride down 95 to 40?

I used to live in Alexandria, VA and moved to NS in 2005. If I had to move back to the east coast, US, I'd move to Asheville. Beautiful country down there...and great roads!
