Oh boy. ADVrider Epic Rides section, the big leagues. Home to some incredible ride reports from all over the world.

If that's what you're looking for here, please navigate to your browsers "back button" now.

What's to follow will most likely be some half finished poorly narrated ramblings of @Downhill502 and I trying to find our way back home to Virginia after shipping our bikes to Portland OR.

The full TAT with a few sights along the way is the plan. Successful or not, we'll certainly have a good time and most likely spread some class along the way...

So let's get the ball rolling...

This is my TAT ride report. There are many like it but this one is mine....and Dave's.

Getting the bikes prepped for shipping came down to the wire. We were still putting the final touches on into the wee hours of the morning before pickup. We had only had a year or so to prepare for this. And just like that, they were off...

Luckily there was a few day delay from the original pickup date as I had my sister hop on my bike so I could check the chain slack. After assuring me...several times...that, "I got this"...she promptly fell over and into the side of my car. Snapping in half my beloved hand made fairing. Affectionately known as the pope fairing...or the cone head.

Luckily the 24hr WalMart is well stocked with fiberglass resin, mat and Redbull.

In no time, the pope fairing was back in action. And now with 20% more ugly!

Due to unforeseen circumstances (i.e., me ordering the wrong carb bowl gasket), I had the pleasure of shipping a non-running and untested bike across country.

So the first order of business upon arriving was to tear everything apart...

Yes, the bicycle was Plan B if the DRZ carb jetting didn't work out.

Flight in was fun. It was my first time through the new TSA body scanners. Fun fact: a one way ticket and a helmet stuffed full of electronic devices will qualify you for a free "random" security check.

Luckily, the only thing they found criminal was my sense of humor in response to there request (demand?) for a pat down. After a brief pocket fondling and some awkward eye contact we were cleared to board.

Along with the helmet, I took my riding gear as carry on. I found a cardboard box that matched the size limit perfectly. Not wanting to be out classed by my fellow travelers a little Sharpie action ensued...

Flying into Portland was quite a surprise. Apparently, the place is on fire. Like, a lot of it. Who knew?

Smoke was thick on landing and the plane got real quiet when we flew through the cloud and the smokey smell filled the cabin.

Plane Captain: "Folks, we're gonna try to drop below the smoke layer to gain some visibility and make ground contact".

Me: "Uhhhh, you don't need visibility to make ground contact. In fact! I think when shit generally goes wrong is when you make ground contact without said visibility."

There's ash everywhere too, looks like snow at times...

Anywhoo, that mostly brings us up to date.

    Tomorrow...we ride.

Have fun & stay safe guys. Knowing you two, slow down once in a while and look to the side - there could be some decent scenery where you're headed. If you run into an ocean the first day, you're going the wrong way...

The rising sun pierces through the smokey skies above Portland. Sounds beautiful, we were sound asleep with the curtains drawn. We stumbled out a few hours later and scored copious amounts of sugar and pig fat to prepare for life in the wilderness.

Any place that sells breakfast and thongs is bound to be awesome.

And it was. So good in fact, that, well...

I cringe at the thought of the future photos. You all should probably unsubscribe from this thread...now. Like, really recommend it :uhoh

This ones for @MXJEEPDOG , we'll have it back to ya in no time!
