    Hello all,

I am pulling out the suspension linkages for the first time on a DRZ400E for maintenance. The swinging arm bolt is refusing to move. Is there trick to this or do I need a bigger hammer?

    Somewhere on da Iron Range.
Spray some penetrating oil on the bolt where in goes through the frame. Run the nut on to the end of the bolt to protect the threads. Start tapping it with the hammer, use stong but ACCURATE taps. Alternating with another shot of oil every now and then. Spinning the bolt a couple revolutions will also help moved the oil around. Having a friend spin the bolt with an air ratchet while you tap can some times help.

Avoid the temptation to wail on it....you will miss eventually....you will miss towards the engine and blast a huge hole in your stator cover. I've seen it happen a couple times.

Work on the bolt a bit and then take a break to let the oil do its work. The bolt corodes to the engine cases and gets very stucked. When you go to reinstall the swing arm coat the bolt with anti-sieze, it will come out easier next time.
