    The FMF jet kit i had also had those smaller main jets, i think it is because the FMF jet needle is smaller, so it allows more fuel, still the biggest mj in the FMF kit was a 136, bike was surging big time at WOT(starving for fuel) , replaced that with the stock 142.5 and it ran better, but once i put in the 147.5 mj, it was great.

    you may have a older jet kit, or a stage one,

    Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is a stage one kit. The explanation I have received is that the replacement needle is thinner, thereby allowing more fuel flow and that Dynojet uses different numbers on their jets. I guess experimentation will work it all out.

    The kit I had was the same... jets were way smaller and it ran like ass. I stole a larger jet from my old DJ kit from my 06 SM and still used the thinner needle and it runs awesome now.

    I'm trading my 03 sv1000s for an 06 drz400sm. I'm gonna miss the fuel injection but have always wanted a super moto. Insurance is dirt cheap too!







    Most importantly, ill do my research I won't ask any dumb questions about gearing, tanks or seats :p

    Going to look at a DRZ400S, 2002 7k miles, aftermarket exhaust and dyno jet stage 1. What is a reasonable price? Example, a couple of 2001 DRZs with around 3k miles and exhaust are listed $2750 on craigslist or 2006 DRZ stock and 3k miles $3200. Its hard to know because that's just what there asking, not what there getting.

    I want to buy some Michelin T-63 tires to run on my '11 DRZ-400S. The stock size is Front 80/100-21 and Rear 120/90-18. The Michelins' only come in 90/90-21 and 120/80-18. Has anybody ran these? Are they much smaller? I mostly ride on the street but my neighbor has a few friends with spots to ride and he said I really need some decent tires to ride there. Any suggestions would be great. I saw the pair of T-63's on Chapparel racing site for $137. Sounds pretty good. Thanks for your help.

    I just saw a Michelin T-63 in 130/80-18 for a rear. That sounds like it might make it about the same overall tire circumfrence. Any thoughts?

    I'm using T-63s front and back. You'll not notice the difference in size, if there actually is any, from stock.

    I was going to get the 130/80 but they were out of stock at the time. Either size will be fine. I mostly ride Forest Service and county gravel/dirt roads in WV and VA. They work great in the small amount of woods riding I do and they're not a bad tire on pavement either.

    I got mine from Chapparel, you can't beat the price.

    Thanks everyone for the help. I had heard good things about these tires. It's nice to have some confirmation. I think I am going to go with the 130 rear tire. Probably place my order tonight. When I finally get them and put them on I will post a couple pictures. Thanks again.

    Be aware that if you are running an oversize battery that some recommend not running a tire bigger than a 120 due to rubbing. I am running a 120 Trackmaster and it does rub under full compression

    im likin those t-63 tires. thats gonna be my next set, i dont like the trakmasters for daily tires. Balance these tires and run em around 28lbs and they should last 3-4k miles of real world dual sporting. I wonder if the 90/90/21 and and the 130 rear will be a good wide setup for sandy use?

    If u wanna use them in sandy condition (can't tell u bout t-63 never tried them) all i know is to dial my suspension to a harder setting and lower the psi in both tires. (A spread out knobby pattern tire would be ideal).
    There's nothing like the Trakmaster in sandy condition but unfortunatly i'll have to agree with you. It isn't a pavement friendly tire even though it's sold as DOT tire:huh.

    I ordered my set of T-63's from Chaparral Motorsports today. The 130/80-18 was out of stock so I have to wait 1-2 weeks before they will come in. I hope I don't have any rubbing issues. I really need to get the suspension sorted. I am a big dude, 270lbs so I know I am already crushing the stock suspension, rides nice on the road though..just a good amount of dive in the front while braking. Still lots of things to purchase to get it off-road ready. But it will get there...eventually.:rofl

    Got out for my first ride on the drz today. Only did about 70 miles cause it's so cold out! Don't think it got above 36 degrees fairenheight all day.

    You most likely have a valve that is tight. Check the valves. If one is tight rebuild the head.

    Why rebuild the head if a valve is tight? all that is needed is to shim the valve back into speck and keep an eye on it in future valve checks. If the valve keeps moving, then a valve replacement might be in order but a lot of the time they only need adjusted once and they're good for a lot of miles.

    The valves are coated, once that wears away the valve will wear very fast. Like out of adjustment in a couple hundred miles fast. I have been in your same shoes. Bike is hard to start when cold and makes a tapping noise.

    Its not too expensive to have your head rebuilt and if you keep your bike jetted properly and the air filter in good shape your valves will last longer. I'm at about 25,000 miles since I rebuilt head.... O checked the valves a couple of weeks ago and they were right where I put them when I had the head rebuilt. I did t plan to ever check them again until I started having starting problems like you said at which point I knew it'd be time for another rebuild anyways but I was having problems jetting my bike after swapping carbs so I though maybe it was a worn valve.
