Dual Sport Rain Tire for PNW?

    I'm moving from AZ to Washington and need a tire for my 990 Baja that will cover the 1500+ miles of Tarmac, will work in the rain and not be useless in the dirt. Any recommendations? I'm leaning towards K60's but am concerned with the bad reviews when it comes to wet road. I'm currently running 908RR's that will need replacing shortly.

    Heidenau K60 or a mefo super explorer works well and lasts long for what your trying to do.

    I hated the K60's on my BMW. Incredibly hard to mount and balance. I liked the Scorpions best of all, and really like them on wet pavement on the KTM.
    I used them in sand on the big BMW Adventure. Back before I got scared of sand.:lol3

    I am gonna go against the grain and say I love the K60, wet and dry, when wet be weary of the shiny patches but no more than MT90 we have been running.

    We are now back to MT21 front. my fav but more for gravel roads and offroad.

    I am on a smaller bike, a DR650, and love the Avon Gripsters front and rear for wet and cold urban riding; steel bridges, light rail everywhere, standard wet stuff. They work very well riding almost daily in wet for winter months over about 7 years.

    Heidenaus worked great for me on my Alaska trip, with lots of wet road riding there and back through WA. Decent in the dirt but not a knobby. 7000 miles on a set and good for another 3 or 4 I am guessing.

    I've been really happy with my Mefos. Good tread life and decent in everything I've come across so far except sticky mud and deep sand.

    Check out the metzeler sahara. It comes in 140 only, but that wouldn't be a problem.

    On my BMW I ran 42 rear 36 front. They last a long time.
    Big heavy bike loaded up extra heavy at times, (commuting to Seattle for work so computers and crap for work).

    At the time they became very hard to find reliably so I gave up on them. I did not like them in sand as much as the TCK80.

    Right now on the 990, I'd probably just go with the Scorpions. They last pretty well stick like glue to wet pavement and are OK on loose dirt, and I can ride them in sand.
    The K60's last a long time though and I'd bet on the 990 being lighter would be 12,000+ tires easy. If I could find them.
    In tubeless form they leaked air over the course of a few days. Not an issue with tubes. But, trail repair would suck, Getting those things on and off the rim with a workstand and big tools was all I could manage. I'd hate to try it out in the weeds. The bare, unmounted tire I could sit on and not deform. :deal
    That was my biggest dig against my choosing it for travel off the roads. I plugged a tubeless flat in Seattle and rode home on it no problems. I'm real happy the tire was not cut.

    I guess I'm going to try the Heidenaus for the move and see how I like them. I love the 908RR's off road so no matter what I get, the new tire will only be on for long Tarmac runs.

    I'm running the Dunlop 908RR's that came with the 990 Baja and love them in the dirt. They're squirmy as hell on pavement when they're brand new but after they wear down a bit they mellow out a lot. I've ridden Willow Springs Rd., Apache Trail and FR 143 with them and the only puckering loss of traction I've experienced on the front was downhill under heavy breaking. The rear is wearing pretty fast but I've been heavy with the throttle and spinning it every chance I get. :D I really hope they work as well in the PNW because they are great tires IMHO.

    I just installed a rear 908 on my 05 950 adventure. I only have two rides into the tire but it seems to hook up pretty good so far. My biggest problem is I don't know how to ride the big bike off road and the tires just spins lol.

    That is the EXACT problem I had at first. I added a G2 throttle tamer with a 300 cam and a 45t rear sprocket and it spins more predictably.

    Oh, and I'm moving to Gig HarborÂ…any trails close to town?

    So do you already have a place picked out in the harbor? I have lived here since 02 and love it out here. The bridge toll sucks but you get used to that. Give me a shout out as well when your done unpacking lol.
