Dunlop 606's on a KTM 990 Adventure

    Is there some reason that the Dunlop 606 is not recommended for the KTM 990 Adventure. I have used these tires on several 650's with success, so what gives here. I want a tire to go with the rear Dunlop 908 on the rear of a 990 Adventure and the 908 fronts on these bike give too much headshake and I have never had that problem with the 606's. Will this combination work or not.

    Yeah, works fine on front. I like the MT21 better myself though.

    Try dropping the pressure in the 908 front down to 23-25 pounds if you haven't already. I find that its a good tire but doesn't need the pressures of a lighter carcass tire, its skin being so thick and tough. It just runs way too stiff with the sorta pressure most people prefer from experience with 'regular' tires.:deal. Drop pressure and the head shake goes away, at least that's how it feels on my bike.

    I have a 908 rear and a 606 front both are worn and I get a pretty severe head shake on my 05.5 950... I am considering changing it up for the next run...

    D606 is a great front tire for the 990 and handles on the highway like a regular tire. I get about 4000 miles and then the highway behavior gets poor due to cupping and squaring of the tire profile. Still does well in the dirt like that.

    Since I have some more highway touring coming up I have changed out to Mefo's until next years riding season.

    I think the D606 is rated for the 990.

    Joe,

    seeing as I am getting a pretty good head shake on my 950 with a 606 on the front - do you experience the same when it is worn??

    I get head shake when the tire wears out. I usually run all my tires as far as possible, since I do lots of dirt, and worn tires handle just fine most of the time off road. The highway really magnifies square edges and cupping. Then I know it's time to change when my riding buddies are running away from me on the pavement.

    As to head shake. My other bikes have steering stabilizers but not my 990. Tightening up my steering head bearings fixed most of the shake and wobble.

    But when the tires loose their shape they will begin to wobble and shake.

    Use the 606 on the front on my 990
    Got 6000 Kms out of the last one and it was gone
    Cheap and hold on well in dirt and tar

    Well there is plenty of knobby left on the front 606 but it is definitely cupped and there is a very visible difference in knobby height / size. So I am wondering if it is the rubber itself.
    I will be swapping another set of wheels on in the next couple of days hopefully and will take a closer look at the front wheel as well of course...
    I have a steering head damper and it is still noticeable at 100kmh... and just gets worse the faster you go.

    I am thinking of trying out the Heidenau K60 tires though.

    I'm running them front and rear! I do a lot of dirt and rocks and so far I love them. Haven't done any mud so can't tell you anything on that end...awesome on the street too.
