Anyone up for a long day?
Tenative route is 160 west to 184 to Dolores, then up on the dirt roads towards Naturita, Hwy 141 to Gateway, John Brown Canyon road to Moab, back to Durango on 491 to 160.
Gonna leave Durango around 9 am.

Josh! I had that day off until a couple of weeks ago and let it go to somebody on the crew that was going to CA. Dang! That will be a great ride for sure. Take photos.

For you guys who have ridden it, how is Gateway road through John Brown Canyon, and over to Moab?

    Rough spots? Deep sand? easily do-able on a 1200GS / Stelvio ??

I only made it 100 yards over the Utah border thanks to not heeding DirtyDr's advice. Which is, do not go right after it rains. For some reason the CO side was pleasant red dirt but the Utah side was bentonite clay which turns to grease after it rains. Burnt my clutch trying to get out of it and ended up coasting back to the Gateway resort.

Highway 145 is a fun road. No snow or anything on the highway. High dirt passes are still closed.
    What's your intended route?

I wouldn't go after rain. Yesterday was the first time I had been over it without a fully loaded bike with camp gear. Been over it with an old F650, an R1150GS and now the Katoom.
The switchbacks are steep, there is a couple miles of rutted road, but nothing 'difficult'.
Round trip was 10 hours, 392 miles. :clap
