Here's the general info and comment thread from the last D2D. Many links and references in it. There will probably be one for 2014 posted sooner or later. Not bike prep specific but some bike related stuff. :1drink

I haven't heard back either. I did call and make a reservation I think for the right time when word first leaked that Triple J may be hosting next year. Luckily the wife is a hearty camper as this will be her first D2D.

I see a couple of different dates being tossed around with question marks, but I don't see a clear answer. For those of us who haven't done a D2D before, can we get a better idea of what's going to be happening when?

    Just checking maps:
I would like to avoid Vancouver, for some reason I think the drivers there will be a bit on the crazzzy side, maybe yes/maybe no??
Anyway I see that there might be some alternates that will get me to Canada.
In terms of border crossing 539 looks like a nice straight road that might also
save me some traffic and a possible border delay, has anyone gone that way, is it
really worth it to avoid Vancouver?

True enough but there is (?) crossing the border about 20mi east of Vancouver.
The map shows 539 going straight north from Alderwood USA to Aldergrove Ca.
with a slight jog at the border.
I will be starting from the SF Bay Area.

OK Mr. Dick I will try to add a translation to my name.:)

Let me get you started. Head up thru the interior toward Creston BC. You will then head up the lake toward Nelson BC. Holy shit, you might just stay there for the summer riding back and forth but, yes, you are just getting started!

Yes, like most large cities, Vancouver is best avoided when possible.
    Do I win a prize ?

OK it was a dumb question, would you like a prize?
I'm still wondering if anyone has used the 539 border crossing.

Lynden or sumas are great places to cross. Getting into Alaska on the the Alcan is a pain. Most of the border guards I have met there seem a little disgruntled. Crossing into Alaska on the top of the world highway is all good. I would avoid Vancouver if possible unless your there to sight see. If your just passing thru go around.

OK, I'm obviously missing some key piece of information here. The OP says hotel rooms have been blocked out for the occasion, and people can start booking reservations, and now you're telling me that a request for clarification on the dates is premature. There seems to be a disconnect here.. If no dates have been set, when were the rooms blocked out for?
