Got back safe despite all the drivers texting on their f$cking cells in the horizontal rain. Soooo glad I didn't ride this time. D606s+rain+distracted drivers? Nuh uh!

On to happier thoughts and scouring tons of pics and video for posting later.

And thanks Jimmy for the awesome grub! The food comma helped me sleep.

So how did the ride home go Montibank! We hit fog on the way down the Tehachapi and could only see about 20 feet, if that. Hope you and your wife made it home safely.

Blew off work at noon on thursday, went home, packed up, and hit the road.
One stop to pick up an RV part for SpongeRob, another stop for dinner in Baker, then a lonely drive up Hwy127.

Passed two rigs heading north, a couple others heading south, that was it.

All quiet at the Crowbar in Shoshone.

Even more quiet at the Opera House.

    Friday, 1/29/16 (part 1)

Despite the late night, woke early and watched the sunrise while munching a simple camp breakfast.

Unfortunately, discovered that my point-n-shoot camera was completly dead (lense error). Odd because I had just used it a couple days prior. Ah well. Could still use my phone-camera, but it is not quick on the draw (gloves-off touchscreen) so only really tooks pics when we were stopped, none of my typical on-the-fly shots.

Hooked up with Rob (SpongeRob) and Robert (BMW-K) for a little exploration across the valley in Trail Canyon and other nearby places. Hadn't been up there in around 15 yrs and it was time to see it again. Fairly late start, but didn't plan on a lot of miles today so no big deal.

    North entrance to Westside Road.

    Starting up Trail :pynd

Road was graded up the fan to the mouth of the canyon, then an unimproved jeep track up the wash. Lots of deep sand/gravel and rocks. Sometimes felt like I had two flat tires as either end would randomly choose a new direction.

Stopped just below the north-south split to wait for the Robs to catch up.

Anybody know what this is? :evil
    [IMG]

    There they are :clap
    [IMG]

Robert was struggling a little with the rough track, still finding his 'dirt' legs :muutt
By the end of the weekend he was in the groove and keeping a good pace :thumb

Next stop was the upper camp (name?), another mile or so up the south fork.

    Nice little workshop...

... stocked with parts to fix anything.

A lawnmower :scratch with a cool little 2-stroke engine :thumb
    [IMG]

Time to check out the cabin.

    Not too shabby.

The longhouse had a kitchen and swamp cooler, but the structure was falling down around it.

Not sure going down was any easier than going up. Still felt like two flat tires.

    Death Valley stretched out below.

Turned left at West Side Road, generally heading back to camp for a re-supply.
I waved the guys on ahead while I stopped a few times for time consuming pics.

    Devil's Golf Course.

    ... like an alien planet.

The road is much improved from over 90 yrs ago.

Back on Badwater Road, I spot an intersting formation...

Not the first to pass here, but I think part of the rock has fallen away.

Still a couple hours of daylight left so we made a quick run up to Hole in the Wall for the sunset.

The trail peels off of Hwy190 about 6 miles south of Furnace Creek...

... and follows a gravel wash thru a 'hole' in a wall of rock.

A few miles further on, we climb out of the wash and thru some rocky hills...

... where the trail ends on a barren bluff.

Made it up there a bit before sunset.

    :wave
    [IMG]

    Time to head back down.

Rob is getting so fast he is often just a blur :D
    [IMG]

    Twilight in the valley.
