That area is was a real gem for going outdoors into the otherwise unmolested wilderness. I spent many weeks as a youngin overnight backpacking back in there.

This will take years to recover from.

The cause of the Eagle Creek fire has been determined to have been man-made potentially from the misuse of fireworks. A suspect has been identified and additional information will be released as the investigation develops.

This investigation is being conducted jointly by the Oregon State Police, US Forest Service, Hood River Sheriff's Office, Hood River District Attorney's Office and fire personnel.

I left central Montana this morning and drove straight through to PDX - smoke all the way. Just made it through one spot in MT before they closed the road - flames were about a half mile from the road when we went through - was still dark so rather spectacular. Then I get home to this mess - unbelievable that some asswipe would use fireworks in these conditions.

Unreal. Extreme fire danger but some dumbass shoots off fireworks. Hiked up to tunnel falls many times.

My friends house is nearby and she was evacuated by the police at 3am this morning since they believe her residence to be in extreme danger i.e. the fire was only 1/4 mile from her doorstep. This pic is from when they briefly allowed her to return this afternoon to remove some belongings. 21230865_10155440201548382_4700528636459469298_n.jpg

140 hikers were trapped by this fucking kid, but were hiked out by S&R and Forest Service to Wahtum Lake today.

I hope thay make an example of him and make it newswortby enough so everybody can see it. They used to do public whippings, I think a comeback is appropriate here....

I feel for You guy's up there but You don't have the only ASSHOLE in the state . WE are burning up down here and can't even see the Sun ( 2 weeks now ) and what do I hear yesterday but some ASSHOLE NEIGHBOR shooting His guns off !!. I'm not talking one or two shots but over an hour and there were single and semi automatic shooting . Where do these ASSHOLES come from and what do they have for brains ? . If it is who We think they are they don't even live here , they are from California and come up once of twice a year . If they start a fire they would just jump in there car and leave while Our homes burn up !. I say take them up to one of the fires and drop them off and see if they make it out .

I 84 is now closed due to spot fires on the road from Troutdale to Hood river. Ash is landing on cars west of it in the Portland area. The fire has now crested 3 terrain peaks and the winds are kicking in. Evacuations for anyone west of Cascade locks.

This is going to leave a stain for years to come.

Actually, about 50-60 years will fix the forest up just fine....But the homes that will likely burn, that will be sad forever.

Have you seen old pics of the gorge in the 20's & 30's? Logged clean then in many areas, but you all know it as heavy forest, now filled with fuel for fire.
