EZ, I must have missed something - you're racing the Baja?
Yup,... Gonna go give it our best shot!
Check us out here:
Thanks Eric - keep us posted on the pre-race activities.
What is near Chandler/Gilbert for a Noob to get off the pavement for some basic trail riding?
New to the forum and new to the dirt for that matter. Getting on a couple of fire roads on my V-Strom made me think I need to develop some basic off road skills. I bought a 96 DR350SE in decent shape and I just need somewhere to get her dusty without breaking any laws or tresspassing.
I feel like the best piece of advice would be a list of inmates NOT to follow
Apache Trail/4 Peaks is the usual destination to start with, there are a couple FB/Meetup groups that post beginner friendly rides, that's how I mostly got started..
Get yourself a Bulldog Canyon permit and do some exploring at your own pace. The entrances off Apache Trail ( Wolverine and AA Pit) have nice areas to practice. Sometimes you will have to deal with other ATVs in the space but it's not too bad. That is where I go for a quick dirt fix when I have limited time.
Speaking of beginner friendly rides, we have a couple people going out to Sheep Bridge tomorrow... I've done enough tough shit in the last couple weeks so it will be just mostly cruising. Mostly.
Btw I don't want to spam here with the videos that I edit so I created a separate thread... come on over, bring some popcorn.
Are the plastic desert tanks street legal? How likely are they to cause a problem with police in AZ and maybe a couple of CA visits?
I am looking at the Acerbis for my DR350SE. The barely over 2 gallon stock tank is a little limiting.
This is the first time I have ever heard anyone say plastic thanks are an issue.
I think we all have oversized plastic tanks.
I think the only time a tank could be an issue in AZ is if you drove one down the hwy and even then it would probably still be legal.
Well if it's a Sherman tank maybe. You can't trust those Europeans.
Same.....never heard of this even being an issue/legally.
AZCircus (et al).... do you have any incidents/references on this? I use mine sometimes and def want to stay on the right side of the law....or whatever the issue is. Thx.
No I read something about them being Off Highway Only in some old post somewhere and immediately assumed the sky was falling.
I believe it must not be true or at least mostly overlooked.
I picked up a second DR350 this morning that already has a larger tank installed so that the wife and I can both get dirty. Until someone cites me I am going to go about my business. As far as I know it is legal anyway.
Thanks for the replies.
All I want for Christmas is to fly home and go riding. It will be 11 months off the scooters in a few days
Oh Crap! I forgot whose fault that was.......plawa? refokus?...no.....hmmmm
Technically the aftermarket tanks are not legal because they are not DOT approved or pollution control compliant. Nobody in AZ cares, just like non DOT tires, nobody cares.
well, maybe I care
Damn dude!! I'm lucky enough to ride just about everyday, sometimes for no reason but a beer.
you ain't got a badge
