There's just a little snow at the mouth of the tunnel, Lots of evidence of the slides over the winter

There are a lot of interesting old structures etc, Pitkin and Tin Cup are both interesting but the most somber is south of Taylor Resevour , in 1944 a B24 crashed in to the mountian on a training flight

Interesting you found the crash. I grew up in that area and for many years that site was a secret that not many people knew about. In fact, if you asked someone in the Gunnison/Almont/Taylor Park area where the site was, they would act stupid and say it didnt exist. Pretty sombering knowing everyone in that plane died.

On a lighter night, good report in some of my favorite parts of Colorado. These are the roads I learned to ride a motorcycle on, so it is always fun to see other people enjoy them as much as I did.

As to finding the crash, there is a GeoCache at the bottom of the hill.
I never did find it, but I nearly didn't make it up to the crash site, us low landers suffer at this elevation.
