Hey Phil, that's where my sister is, in Katy. I was down there in 2011 and it seemed nice. I'm not sure if my bro-in-law got another bike yet, if he did, I'll have him get in touch. I haven't checked this thread in a while, it kind of died.

Riding season just barely got started here. I did a bit of riding last week up north near Cour de alene and the weather was good, but has since degraded. I did 290 miles today in STRONG, gusty winds. I left Shelley at 11 and rolled into Carey at 4:15 with 170 miles on the clock, all but about 5 miles dirt :clap, I spent about 45 min there warming up and getting some energy back, then had to pound the (mostly)highway home.:cry

The last 30 miles or so were :vardy.

I'm sure you miss the desert and mountains, but equally sure you don't miss the crazy springtime winds and the cold winters.

The next time I make it down to Katy I'll get a hold of you, I still owe you some beers.:beer

4/21/2013. Not as wet as I thought it would be after the rainstorm we had Saturday. Took it slow. Still learning the big bike.

Usually, I don't see many people in this area. This time I saw two ATVs, a dirt bike, people walking their dogs, and some dudes brushing up on their rifle skills. Guess I'm not the only one with spring fever.

^^ Was that the Henrys cutoff road near Wayan? There are some good routes down that way. Early season and late season I do most of my rides on the west desert. I'll be headin for the mountains soon:D

    Nice bike BTW

    Thanks.

Wayan sounds familiar, but I'm not sure. If you head south on 45 E in IF/Ammon (Crowley Rd), you'll end-up on this road. It comes out on Taylor Mnt. Rd. I usually use it to connect with Taylor Creek Rd. (off of Taylor Mtn. Rd.) and then Wolverine.

^^ Ok, I know that one.

Everybody I rode with on this thread has moved away.

What kind of riding do you like?

I won't be able to go out this weekend (heading out of state for a job) and I might not make it back for the next one, but after that I'll be itchin for a good day ride, and I need to do a good shakedown ride for my homemade soft paniers before a trip I'll be taking in June. I'll post an invite here when I have the time to ride, and have an idea of a route.

Let me know. While I have the Scorpions, I'd like to stick with easy dirt roads and pavement. If I see mud, I'm turning around. :muutt :nono

Maybe I should get some knobbies? :D

You two would have similar riding preferences.
Wish I was there to go ride with you.

Yeah, I wish you were still here too.

Here's a video I took yesterday on Sellar's Creek Rd. I had to cut it short though because the road was getting muddy and I didn't want to deal with it. If I had knobbies, and buddy to help me pick up my bike when I went down, I may have tried it.

    Hey guys.

Does anyone have a guess if the Afton - Flagg ranch road will be open by the first week of June this year?

I tried two years ago and got stopped by snow.

    Any opinions are appreciated.

It was almost 90 here today, so I think you will have a great ride, especially that meadow before the Grassy lake will be full of those cool wildflowers.

Well it was almost 90 hear on the CA coast and last time I was on A F road the wildflowers were in full bloom, but I'm thinking it was mid June 2010 :lol3

Well thats my lame opinion. I hope you have fun and give us some first hand intel.

One of my friends who doesn't ride goes to the start of the road on Memorial Day weekend to camp. Often he can't even get to the start

There was only 7-8 feet of snow this year compared to the normal 15-20.Should melt out quicker than normal.

Has anyone here run the Magruder Corridor in mid june? Just wondering what the snow situation might be like there, it's part of a route I'm planning from June 14th to the 23rd. I'm guessing it should be alright, but I've never run that particular road.

Could be too early. These guys didn't make it last year at that time.

I made it and it had just opened mid-July in 2012.

Hello thread; New to adventure riding here. But WOW! What a fantastic day today! Need to get outdoors - go for a ride!
Maybe head up past Kelly Canyon and go exploring - see what the conditions are like. Wish there was more activity here on this thread for the adventure rider! The Harley guys are out on the hardball in force today!
.........well, just thought I'd post a hello since I'm new here. Time to head out and explore on such a fantastic day!
EVERYONE, post what you did today on such a fine Mother's Day today! Did you take flowers to Mom?, take the wife for a ride?, abandon social mores and go for a solo adventure ride or sit inside and eat pastries?
......... sorry Mom (actually mom is not with us anymore! Otherwise I might be more domestic today :evil) .... I'm going for a ride!
    Out for now,

Yeah, that's what I did. I visited mom on the way home though:D.

Heading up toward Kelly's sounds fun, although there's quite a bit of traffic up there... you'll have to hug the side of the rode to avoid camp trailers.

While I have the scorps, I wouldn't mind an all pavement ride.
