Depending you your weight, (and if Dave's 225 is street legal) around Philly and the back roads that 225 will be fun as hell.
Off road it will be so much easier to learn on then a something as heavy as a KLR or XR .
I have ridden with people that first went off road with heavy bikes, dropped them many times and never went off road again. Off road is much different then street. It can really wear you out.

then next year, (or next fall) keep it, and buy a KLR or something like that. After a year or 2 on something like a used KLR, then look at new stuff.

To be honest I dunno how much I'll be into dirt bike. Like I said I just sold an ATV that I could never use being Philly don't have a lot of riding areas.

Also on the 2.0 theme where the heck is the post button? I gotta change themes to post.

I second the motion on smaller first!

I haven't ridden in 20 years got the KLR and I was a little rusty but did ok.
My wife has a TW200 and I can whip that thing around with no effort the top speed is the only issue with it
    .
My daughter got her first bike she rode the wife's and and she ended with a XT250 and I really like that one.

If I did it all over and could afford 2 bikes it would be the XT and some thing bigger and better for the road than the KLR but since my ship didn't come in (and I can't use my moms credit card) I can only have one and the KLR fits the bill.

We had a dusting in the hill this morning and picked up a bit after 4:00 when I got home from what.

Looks like we may get some additional "s by Saturday.
    Wind is brutal.

    Crazy weather for sure.
We picked up a bunch of rain too.
Now Lake Effect and nasty wind chills.

I was just throwing out the KTM to see a reaction. :evil

You will find that there will be very few times that you will need a dealer, unless you by one of those Bavarian Motor Works bikes. You can learn all the DIY stuff from the folks on ADV. :deal

If you are buying new the one with the best price.

Do you plan on wrenching your self? If not find a dealer with good service dept and buy it there.

Mine has been back only for inspection's

Two other important sites for help on KLR's
