I think that's the weekend of the COW CRAP Campout.
Now I got to figure out how to access the Horse Shoe Curve so I can take pictures of JB hanging out of the window.
Is there any camping ground near the poor side?
Try Greenwood Furnace State Park. Holiday weekend, reserve early.
Found on internet
there are some spots that won't get you in trouble with the police. In downtown Altoona, just below the Amtrak station is a pedestrian bridge with a great overhead view. West of town you'll find the only grade crossing next to an abandoned brick factory. In downtown Gallitzin, a bridge and adjoining caboose park allows a view of the tunnel portals, with westbounds heading upgrade. At Cresson, a railfan overlook next to the tracks, built by the town. Further west, check out Lilly where you can catch eastbounds coming upgrade. Finally, at Cassandra there is a park with an old bridge giving a great view of the three track main stretching for miles to the west (south).
they say google earth shows a stone road along the tracks, but I hear its closed to public
Is that close to the well known, world famous furniture store by the same name.....

"Since its opening, Horseshoe Curve has been a tourist attraction.
A trackside observation park for visitors was completed in 1879.
The park was renovated and a visitor center constructed in the early
1990s. The center is managed by Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona
and contains exhibits pertaining to the curve."
Railroaders Museum, Altoona, PA
Greenwood Furnace State Park to Altoona, PA 48 miles
Prince Gallitzin State Park
To Horseshoe Curve 18 miles
And Greenwood Furnace is a stop over on the Trans PA Trail.
Head south and its 147 miles to Pine Grove Furnace State Park in Michaux.
Head north and its 146 miles to Black Moshanhon State Park. (I have not ridden this section yet myself)
I rode that section, it's a good ride.
That is such a cool shot.. Thanks George
George is way cool.
Thanks for the heads up on the steam train excursion Tracy.
I've had a bad flu for the past couple of days, and was so weak and sore I didn't have the energy to even log onto the PC.
I signed up for the Fort Wayne RR newsletter and will let you know anything I find out about the excursion. They did mention that it is a round trip.
Come-on now Tracy. You know I had the answer all along..............
Your turn....set it up/organize.
Glad you're feeling better.
It's good to walk among the living again.
I was hoping Mark_O was going to have his Pie Riders weekend in Galeton that weekend.
Edit: Station Inn is full that Sat & Sun according to their website.
I am open to suggestions. I'd do Galeton again or ride the choo-choo train. It doesn't look like I'll be riding any time soon with this weather. Last year I was down to the Ox Yoke in March with Dennis when I made the arrangements.
The choo choo rides are Mon, Tues, & Wed
I thought they were sat sun and mon?
I'm glad to hear that ya feeling some what better ..
Take baby steps... Don't over do it...
The Flu.. UGH ...
Haven't had that since 1993.. And nope I don't do flu shots..
