It's about that time of the year again, last Aug. 2nd the White Mountain Research Station opened it's door to the public. This has becomed an annual pilgrimage for many riders throughout CA, NV, and AZ. The research station at 12,500 feet is probably one of the highest destination for us flatlanders. The peak at over 14,000 feet again was conquered by a few healthy FFs.

    Last year's ride report:

Before moving on, we would like to thank Stonewall for his dedication and effort in keeping this event alive for the last many years....:thumb

Though the WMRS ride was on a Sunday, many arrived a few days earlier to explore other parts of the Eastern Sierra.

There were many cows in the area and surely it became man vs cow that weekend. I think 2 injuries and vehicular damages (2 bikes and 1 suv).

So I decided to do this trip last minute- like fri @ 10am!:huh

I end up leaving @ 1:30pm from Irvine.

    head up the 15...

to see this just before Cajon Pass. must have been going to Ft. Irwin.

So, I finally get on the 395 out of Victorville & feel the heat of the Mojave- wasn't that bad as long as you kept moving.

    yep, 209 to Bishop...:(:

well, i knew which way i was gonna be heading for a while...

then, 1st sight of the So. Sierras:clap soon I would be out of the Mojave :lol3

    Is that precip up ahead???

Yep! it sure is! Soo now, I'm in the Owens Valley, starting to sloowly climb in elevation- seems like i haven't really left the heat of the Mojave behind me.

So, I missed that storm cell:webers

holding indicated 80mph, which is 73mph on my gps. this is with one less tooth on the front sprocket. Engine was pretty whiney... but it held that velocity when i wanted it to. :D

leaving Lone Pine... & yes, its getting dark.
thats it for fridays pics. :dunno

Starting to sort through my pics. I'm not familiar with all of the SoCal and NorCal crews that showed up for this ride, so I apologize ahead of time if I get some names wrong...

I was staying at the McGee Creek Lodge, but rode over to the campsite Friday morning. Met Stonewall, Hurty and some others. Stonewall organized a ride over to the little Red Rock Canyon, so I tagged along.

We headed east on paved Benton Crossing Road before it turned to dirt...

I think this is Cory (the "andme" part of Hotmamaandme)

This might be NotBetty leading the way...

Making sure everythings OK before hitting the Chidago Canyon Road
    [IMG]

On the Chidago Canyon Road which winds through a red rock canyon - Hotmama on the Ural
    [IMG]

After getting through the canyon, the road straighens out and we hit the intersection with Fish Slough Road. The others were going to head north towards Benton, but Kelley and I decided to fly down the Fish Slough Road towards Bishop - and fly we did, at least into the 90's and close to 100mph over much of it.

Soon we came to a little area with petroglyphs...

My riding buddy for the day - Kelley
    [IMG]

It wasn't long before we hit the intersection with Casa Diablo Road and Chalk Bluff Road. We took Chalk Bluff west towards the highway, and then south into Bishop. On Stonewall's recommendation we ate at the Petite Pantry - great food at a good price.

After lunch, we went back on Chalk Bluff Road, but took Casa Diablo north. After some initial turns where you have to be a bit careful, it starightens out and again we were flying up the road most of the way.

Soon, it was back into camp (which was starting to get busy with more and more Adv's showing up).

h8chains had showed up with Sopascat and were looking to get a ride in during the afternoon, so a group soon started forming for another ride...

You are such a loser. I don't care if you're faster than me, you're still a loser for trailering (ooh, I feel all ooky for even saying it out loud) a GS.

Great report Joel! You guys had some fun! I probably should have gone to Bodie with everyone on Saturday, but knowing that I wanted to do the hike the next day, I kept it tame... Until I got to road to Reward Mine... :lol3
