The whole morning was enlightening. Maybe you've also been pondering this question as well...

Speaking of showers...it wasn't this particular 'water <S>heater</S> warmer' shower head...

...but one very similar in our room.

Dave sez the water was warm. I get in afterwards and can barely stand the cold stream coming out of it.:vardy

"Jiggle the switch around a little bit...maybe it's not making contact."

    *jiggle, jiggle, jiggle*

    - green arc glows through the plastic housing - :eek1

    "Ahhhhhhh...warm water..."

Complete opposite of what's been driven into our heads about electricity and water.:lol3

Eventually we get our acts together, get the bikes loaded up and we're off - but not before a photo op with our host at his request.

First, a shot with his camera. Then with mine...

He then offers to lead us out of the village. "Sure. Why not?" I think to myself. "But how hard could it be to find our way out of here?" Then we find out...

    <IFRAME height=480 src="http://api.smugmug.com/services/embed/2527075506_BXdkwFN?width=640&height=480&albumId=29307798&albumKey=3BsQss" frameBorder=0 width=640 scrolling=no></IFRAME>

Out of the little maze, we fly solo...

This short little ride takes us to precisely the point where Dave does the "Oh shxt! Where's my camera?" pat down. While I'm a little sick to my stomach for him I snap a shot...

Other than the look of shear panic under his helmet, the view was fantastic! You can even make out the church we stayed next to.

    Missing camera confirmed, we backtrack...

we get too far along, I need to clear up a discrepancy....watch closely at the very start... then you can stop it. :D

    <IFRAME height=315 src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/UpqXW_yhhdg?rel=0" frameBorder=0 width=420 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

So We continue on...although I think EC is gonna relate the camera story.....he'll just havta catch up...

This is a large section of laid stone roads that seems to be on the outskirts of many communidads

    <IFRAME height=315 src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/VwBDeMLKijE" frameBorder=0 width=560 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Then we hit the main road into Otavalo

    :nah

    You covered that nicely...

    Keep it coming.:deal

Camera back in whizzerwheel's possession and our faith in mankind restored, we weave our way back out of town.

The morning is spent filling up SD cards with the GoPros...

    <IFRAME height=480 src="http://api.smugmug.com/services/embed/2505657919_NSSn5F8?width=640&height=480&albumId=29307798&albumKey=3BsQss" frameBorder=0 width=640 scrolling=no></IFRAME>

    ...and drinking in the views...

This is the veiw back towards Dave...

You can barely make him out next to the second pole from the left. I think I may have zoom envy.:uhoh

While we want this to be its own ride it's tough not making comparisons to other places...

    <IFRAME height=480 src="http://api.smugmug.com/services/embed/2516570971_wxT5Fwz?width=640&height=480&albumId=29307798&albumKey=3BsQss" frameBorder=0 width=640 scrolling=no></IFRAME>

Looking across the valley we imagine sooner or later we'll find our way onto that road down there...

...it's just a matter of how long will it take to get there...

    "Whadaya 'spose that marker is..."

    "No. To your left."

Checking out the map we determine it's a border marker before we move on...

    <IFRAME height=480 src="http://api.smugmug.com/services/embed/2505666996_fQfwTHW?width=640&height=480&albumId=29307798&albumKey=3BsQss" frameBorder=0 width=640 scrolling=no></IFRAME>

Couldn't think of the singer or the lyrics to save my life but eventually it came to me...

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/uHZJej98_T0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Bonus points if you've heard this watching Smokey and the Bandit in your yout'. Tripple bonus points if it was at the drive-ins.:deal

That's missing some of the process of what's going on along the road side...

In search of gas, this is a good sign...

    We pull in, fuel up...

...and do what we can to expose ourselves to the powerful sun of the equator.

This reminds Dave...he's now on a mission...

...he's in search of a bandana. Something to keep the sun off his neck. Apparently he can't be bothered with that pesky sunscreen.

I'm thinking finding a bandana here is going to be next to impossible. He's going to have to find a suitable substitute. All I can think of is that dude from Scooby Doo and of course mention this to Dave. We've got no TV or interweb - we've got to do something for entertainment around here.:lol3

Folks, this is what happens when you end the riding day a bit on the early side and all you have to do is complain about the warm beer and make corny videos. Yes. VideoS. There are sure to be a few more from that afternoon.

    You've been warned.

    :shog Why, thank you.

Word to the wise. Don't encourage us.:deal

    :lol3

PS - Meant to mention this before...

...regular is $1.48/gallon, super is $2.00/gallon.

    Yes. A GALLON, not a litre.:deal

Meanwhile, back on the streets of Otavalo...

    <IFRAME height=480 src="http://api.smugmug.com/services/embed/2505680323_gMb7PDp?width=640&height=480&albumId=29307798&albumKey=3BsQss" frameBorder=0 width=640 scrolling=no></IFRAME>

...I hang back with the bikes taking in the sights and playing with my camera...

    ...while Dave shops.

Once he disappears deep into the sea of blue tarps the gentleman across the way comes over and strikes up a 'conversation'. While we make a feeble attempt to communicate he checks out the bikes. His buddy joins him. We all just kind of hang.

Somewhere in all of the excitement I do manage to poach some wi-fi and check in back home. It's been a few days.

    Eventually Dave returns...

...sporting his latest fashion accessory. He's gonna kill me.:lol3

Of course, we have to goad him into a close up, "You know, for our people back home...work the camera!"

    Mid-shoot something goes dreadfully wrong!:eek1

Dude from across the way explains that this ascot is woven from the wool of an anaconda and it will eventually choke the life out of him.

    "No seƱor. Not really."

All loose clothing tucked in out of the spokes, we make our way out of town...

Skip to 01:25 for the street market ride

Evilclown was a little green with envy at my purchase...he secretely was looking for his own red scarf but couldn't find one to match his idol...

In spite of all this fun we were having we decided to continue on....a different perspective of the same thing:

    <IFRAME height=480 src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/DrlNR4fqAdQ" frameBorder=0 width=853 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

Once we got out of that mess the riding and scenery started to get really good...had a couple of delays though...vaca crossing

    <IFRAME height=480 src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/HTISxxAMhqw" frameBorder=0 width=853 allowfullscreen></IFRAME>

We also came across this crater lake along the way. It was a little touristy at the other end but Mike noticed this little slot of a farm road off to the right and at the end of it was this view:

We quickly make our way out of town but not before swinging by Otavalo County Choppers...

    ...

    ...

As Dave sez, we end up and a National(?) Park of sorts...

...where I'm more interested in the VW bus than the mountain vista...

    :lol3

We decide to keep on moving. Gate dude shows us a shortcut to the road we think we're looking for. We take it and it soon connects to what prolly is the road we were looking for.

Zipping along, this path is spotted...

"I'll bet the view of that mountain is pretty good from over there..."

    It gets better...

Nevermind the fact that the stitching cuts off Dave's bike.:deal

Woulda made an awesome camping spot, complete with fire ring, if someone were to have packed their camping gear.:deal

After taking it all in we head back to the main road...

...along with a trike rider and all of his friends...

It's a good thing that pickup was in front of me. When we came around the corner and saw that grader coming and it wasn't even slowing down, I thought oh shit....but fortunately I was able to follow the pickups track over that pile of gravel. Not sure I had enough momentum to make it through on my own in time.
