After two full weeks of monogamy with the Gold Wing, I slipped out early this morning to get reacquainted with my BMW R1200GSA. I met my buddies Larry and Loren and we headed up into the mountains around Marion and Burnsville.

We spent a little time exploring around Penland.

When we passed this sign, the name sounded very familiar. I thought it was a school one of my best friends back in Maryland had attended. I called him when I got home and it was in fact the school he attended. He thought it was a great experience and hopes to go back there again.

It was great being back in the North Carolina mountains! Thank you Loren for routing and leading the ride.

Real nice pics of your trip Numa. In your lighthouse pic at Wood Islands from the ferry boarding lot you can see a pole sticking up from behind the roof of the middle range light building. If you were closer you would have seen this.

Cool photo! We had planned to head over to the lighthouse, but as we arrived early the staff told us to go ahead and get in line and they'd put us on the earlier ferry. Figured we could use the extra time covering our circuitous route from Caribou to Auld's Cove.

So much to see on those Maritime Provinces. It's tough to decide what to do and how much time to spend at each spot. When you have the time constraints of limited vacation days, you can only cover so much ground.

Spent most of the day at work today, but did get out for a short spin on the DR650 this afternoon.

Stopped by Ride Now Motorsports up in Concord for a look see and then cruised by the Speedway to check things out.

Rode my BMW up to Maryland over the August 18-20 three-day weekend. My brother had never seen my R1200GS Adventure and he had never ridden one. We went out for a ride Saturday afternoon on back roads over in the western portion of Charles County so he could get a feel for it. (I followed while riding his BMW F700GS.)

I think he liked it! I received a text message from him Friday saying his HD Electra Glide was gone and this is a picture of his new ride.

Rode the DR650 to a work meeting at one of our field locations this morning and stopped along the way to check out one of the new Rt. 74 bypass bridges.

I was scheduled to meet my riding buddies at 8:30 AM this morning at Christie's Kitchen in Polkville, NC. I left home a little early so I could stop for a couple of photos on the ride up.

Loren, Larry, Augie, Augie's girlfriend Deb and I had a nice breakfast at Christie's. After breakfast, Larry headed back home for a family commitment and the rest of us headed up into the mountains for a ride. Augie led us through a series of mostly paved back roads with a little bit of gravel to keep things interesting. We made a stop along Playmore Beach Road...

...and then looped up through Blowing Rock and over to North Wilkesboro where we had lunch at Pa Paw's.

The BBQ was good, but spitting on the sidewalk will cost you.

Thank you Augie for routing and leading today's ride. I enjoyed it lady and gentlemen!

    Yes, thanks to all!

Think this was the weekend that Jon was doing a rally.

Only took a few pics at the first place you did.

The weather has been great lately for riding in the Charlotte area. I rode my BMW Friday morning to a meeting in Oakboro.

Here's the view on Pleasant Hill Church Rd while on the way back from Oakboro.

Got caught by the train in Monroe.

It was a long, slow train.

Digital photography is great, but I could've had film processed in the amount of time it took for that train to pass.

My brother and I started riding motorcycles together over fifty years ago. He stopped by for a visit on his way to Myrtle Beach and we spent the day riding motorcycles yesterday. Since BMW hasn't worked out a deal with the Commonwealth of Virginia that will allow dealers to sell BMW bags with the R1200GS Adventure -- the BMW bags block visibility of the reflectors -- my brother does not yet have bags on his new R1200GSA. He brought his F700GS with him on this trip.

We rode over in Uwharrie, stopped by El Dorado Outpost for gas and breakfast and then passed across Low Water Bridge Road...

They provide chalk so people can leave notes inside the bridge.

After leaving Pisgah Covered Bridge, we looped around roads near High Rock Lake and then dropped down into Mt. Pleasant for lunch at What-A-Burger. After we left Mt. Pleasant, we made a stop by McCracken Aerodrome and then headed home so my brother could wash the dust off his BMW. We ended the day with steaks cooked on the grill.

It was great hanging out with my brother and riding with him on Saturday. With 400 miles between our respective residences, I don't get to spend nearly as much time as I'd like to with him these days. After he packed up this morning and headed out to meet his buddy in Myrtle Beach, I went for a ride on the DR650 to run some errands and play around while my wife was at church.

I had moved my Gold Wing over to a friend's garage before my brother arrived so I'd have space in my garage for his F700. Once my wife got home from church, she gave me a lift so I could retrieve the Wing and then we went out for a ride. We headed down Wolf Pond Road into South Carolina and then took a series of country roads over to Waxhaw where we parked street side and then walked around town.

The train passed through Waxhaw while we were up on the bridge over the tracks.

The weather has been so perfect for riding, I've ridden motorcycle to work the last two days even though my office is just a few miles away. Yesterday after work, my wife had a meeting so I turned the opposite direction as I left the office and followed Rocky River Road south down into South Carolina. Turned east on Camp Creek/Landsford Road, followed it to Austin Road and then turned north. Followed Griffin Rd and Lancaster back into the old section of Monroe and stopped by the abandoned mill on Miller Street for a few photos.

Suzuki's DR650 comes with the rear shock pre-drilled for multiple mounting points. What that means is you don't have to purchase an after-market set of lowering links to lower the rear of the bike. I rode mine for a while set up as delivered and decided I'd be more comfortable with it in the lower position. Here's the shock in the lower position.

I had the front forks slid up in the triple trees to match the change in the rear.

And installed Suzuki's shorter kickstand. (The shorter kickstand is silver versus the black stand that came with the bike as delivered.)

Now I no longer look like this when I'm mounting my bike.
