Electric Trials bike ...

    I just got back from our two day event. One of our crazy Oset Dads has already built a 26`` bike. It was very cool. (sorry I did not take pics) I can tell you it scared the _hit out of me! (And the owner!) Someone should be along in a day or two with good pics.:lol3
    I went to try a real wheelie, ended up doing three wheelies with a couple nose wheelies in between. (without using the front brake) It was quite entertaining for those who actually witnessed it. No dabs and did not crash. Trouble with the current design is the wheelbase is too short. But a great first attempt at a 26 inch.

    Yup, 26" downhill MTB wheels and tires. Lance is contemplating a 24" prototype as well.

    I am itching to hear how it went a Lake Fork, I t looked cool, but the only time I got to see him was at the rider's meeting and when he was riding his Beta, (oh and when I bought his older Beta :rofl)

    Surely the first time the forks compress you would be over the bars as te wheel has nowhere to go except into the frame

    Very cool.

    At $5K, I'd be in. Hopefully we'll see something priced competitively soon. Too bad they can't get some fed and state tax credits like the Tesla. Let's see, $5K less "$7,500-$15,000 tax credit" (per Tesla website) and they'll pay us to ride one? IN!

    The EM website says they will be about the same price as a gas bike. My guess is they are referring to the expensive ones.

    Interesting electric bicycle versions. Got me thinking about something running around in the back of my brain for two decades:

    The need for A SMALLER SIZE/BULK QUALITY COMPONENT SET.

    It would take a large capital investment and coordination between factories and suppliers to make this happen, but it could blow the doors open to all sorts of possibilities. Remember the Honda ATC? look all where that has gone. Honda could not have produced the first one without tires!

    Right now we are stuck with nothing in between human power component sets and gasoline powered component sets. Yes, there are some in between, but the need is for quality, something like a Michelin X tires and AJP or Nissin etc. brakes scaled to, um, a guess, 75% the current size.

    The bicycle component set is too light and spindly, and the gasoline powered trials component set is larger than it needs to be. Imagine the availability of something in between and right in time with the more recent availability of brushless DC motors, controllers, and longer lasting light batteries!

    Someone will see this and do it. Not me.

    For me to purchase an electric bike I'd want it to have a propper clutch, gears, Honda builld quality, recharge in a minute or two, competitive rebuild costs and intervals, 2.75/21 and 4.00/18 tyres, light weight, low purchase price and look stylish too.

    With the way electric motors work I feel I could do without the gears as long as they have the rest of it all sorted well and the power delivery is good...

    I would want. (not in order of priority)
    1) clutch (or something that created the same affect/feel)
    2) Great build quality
    3) recharge quick (would love 15 min to at least 80%, but 30 to 80% would do)
    4) competitive rebuild costs and intervals,
    5) 2.75/21 and 4.00/18 tires
    6) light weight

    I think you can have everything but the recharge time. I do think a clutch would be nice. I don't think the Oset's have one, but I dont know why you couldn't put a little wet clutch between the motor and the drive. A large motor mass and you could have something very much like the flywheel effect of the existing tech.
