The plastic maggot, cx.and the xs.
    I'll start.
Looks like shit in front of Starbucks. Much to heavy
Stater dies at 40k miles. Supposed to change the oil.
Xs, realy . Who puts that many carbs on a bike? And no vent in the wind shield
And what's with that shaft shit, every 60k miles I have to look at it.not cool.

Sounds like you got the wrong XS - an XS has the right amount of carbs and cyls, has chain drive, makes nice noises and can be made into any style of bike you like.

Those CX/GL500s are terrible. What gives with putting the engine in sideways? 10,000 RPM with push rods? And real bikes have chain drive, not shaft. How come there are still so many of them around after 30+ years? They should all be in the junk pile by now.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love my old GL.

Nice GL, looks very clean!. My first bike was a CX500 and I'm building a CX650 now. I always thought an old Silverwing would make an excellent commuter bike with all that storage and wind/weather protection. Do you have the cool trunk/backrest/solo seat thing for yours?

I've owned 2 CX500s in the past and always regretted selling them. Never tried a CX/GL650 but I imagine they're great bikes. Yes I do have the trunk/backrest that latches on in place of the rear seat. Very handy.

And I bet that your ride didn't mark its' spot every time you parked it...

That's the way to do it: wash less, ride more. :D

I guess I just had a bad one, but I've not had a bike that caused more trouble than my CX500. And it wasn't even enjoyable to work on!

But it was quite nice when it did work.

I'll admit it, My XS is far from the perfect bike. It vibrates, The charging system must of been designed by Lucas and the electric start only works 1 out of 3 tries but its still a fun bike. I only paid $400 bucks for it and have a whopping $650 bucks total invested in it.

I was out for a ride yesterday in 38 degree weather and didnt see one fucking Harley out there . A couple Goldwings, a BMW and a guy on an old CB-500 and that was it.

Cant say much about the CX. Yep, It is butt ugly but they seem to have a cult following these days. I nearly bought one for $500 bucks years ago but was a little worried because it had 50K miles on it. I heard the fellow that ended up with it put another 50 thousand on it with hardly any problems.

Not all CX's were cruisers or Silver Wings. I almost bought one of these new back in the day. Bought a Seca 750 instead...big mistake!
