I learned yesterday that Eric Haws has passed away. I spoke with his wife Gail and she asked me to let others know that the Tynda Rally was canceled this year.

Eric passed away on May 4, 2013 due to cancer. Gail said he fought it hard for 9 months. :cry

Eric was a well know Adventure rider. He's ridden in more countries than anyone I know. He holds a world record for being the first moto to ride across Russia. He liked to say he's ridden across Russia 2 1/2 times. Many of you knew Eric better than me.

Below is Gail's address in case anyone needs it.

    Thanks,

That really blows. He WAS truely a nice guy who shared his wonderful place on the river with riders from literally everywhere. I attended his burning rider rallys and had good times there.

He will be missed and remembered as a really experienced enthusiastic rider of the world.

I can say Eric had a huge impact on my life. I have met some great people at his place and I gained a lot of knowledge. The world is not as big as it seemed before I met Eric and Gail. I learned we can speak a common language ---- Motorcycle Riding

I'm sorry that I didn't get the honor of meeting this rider brother.

I've added his name to the ADVrider memorial thread in Inmates.

I'm so devastated. We were just talking about going down there before the Burning Moto Man rally, to spend some time with Eric and Gail, since we've been consumed by our new house since December. I feel awful that we kept putting a visit off.

Stefan (Coyotetrips) met Eric and Gail in Greece - we were living in Germany at the time and Stefan was on his first motorcycle tour of Eastern Europe. He came back and said he'd met a really nice, funky couple that were living the life we wanted to live. When years later, in 2009, we moved to the Portland area, I was so happy to learn they lived not far from us, and I'd get to meet them at last.

We loved the Burning Moto Man rallies we got to go to, as well as just going to Westfir a few times just to hang out. And I loved sending world motorcycle travelers their way. Eric was so supportive when I started riding my own bike - I appreciated it so much.

I'm so upset right now. Gotta pull myself together and call Gail.
