euro 4 engine.

    I would like to know if the bikes with the euro 4 engine feel any different to the euro 3 .Wondering if there is a slight power decrease to meet the new standards.Thanks in advance,Dogmaboy.

    Isn't Euro 4 a standard for exhaust emissions rather than the engine being different? I.e. more strict restrictions done on the CAT?

    I had a 2014 GS and currently have a 2017 GSA. The motor in the 14 (Euro 3) had the lighter flywheel and on paper made the same power. The years after the 14, all the bikes got the heavier flywheel and in 17 they became Euro 4 compliance. All these had numbers on paper that were near identical (I think the 2014 was down 1 point something HP by some numbers I've seen).

    As far as my seat of the pants feel, besides the lighter flywheel difference between my 14 GS, the 17 GSA has the Akro on it and of course the GSA is heavier...the Akro doesn't change peak numbers but it does move them to lower RPM's.

    I instantly noticed less revs were needed to get moving from a stop on the heavier flywheel bike...I guess you could say it's easier but I didn't have trouble with the 14. Through the RPM range the new bike seems to have more at the 5000rpm 'second coming' than the old bike. Considering the small numbers the Akro changes I find it surprising there is a 'felt' difference...maybe it's in my head.

    I loved the transmission in the 14 but it required a more narrow procedure to be very smooth...it seems to me the 17 doesn't require as much precision to get it 'right'.

    IIRC it is only the GSA that has the heavier flywheel, not the GS. This was done rather than changing the Adventure's gearing to be lower as done with previous generation.

    I have ridden both Euro3 & 4 GS's. No noticeable difference to me other than the exhaust on Euro4 is noticeably quieter to meet Euro4 noise regulations. This is why you also see all the manufacturers such as Akra, Remus, SC etc offering specific Euro4 mufflers to meet standards. The headers were also changed with Euro4, so one would assume a change to the cat.

    The 2013 GS LC and the 2014 GS LC had the lighter crankshaft. The 2014 GSA LC was the first bike with the heavier crankshaft and in 2015/16/17 both the GSA and GS used the same heavier crankshaft.

    I had a 14 GSA and now 17 GSA. This year is the first year in Canada the bike got a Cat.

    2 things that I noticed that are different right away is this motor runs and sounds much smoother especially while

    under load. My 14 always had quite a bit of clattering(cam chain tensioner problem)? Secondly, I find gear shifts are

    much easier. With the 14, you had to be more deliberate with every shift.
