Slickguns.com has had uppers popping up daily in the $400-500 range from various manufacturers. Most are without bcg or charging handles. Just check in a couple times a day, and you might get lucky.

I'm thinking about getting a Slide Fire AR stock and would really like to try one out before I buy, but that probably won't be happening so the next best thing is to ask if anyone here has shot an AR with one ?
    Pros, Cons ?

    Thanks in advance !

I have an M4 at work and don't even bother using the full auto during firearm qualifications. Full auto is a waste of ammo and there is no tactical advantage. It may be fun at times but it is expensive.

The only way I would buy a slide fire is for long term investment for when they become class III items.

Then why do M4s have the option of full auto?

    Besides looking cool, they're fun!

Oh, tactically? Well, I was a sailor and for us--none. For infantry with a need for suppression fire? Maybe it's different for them.

As for burst fire triggers, it is my understanding (from second hand information) that they are "crunchy" and that single shot or FA triggers are better. So, for trained and brained users, maybe a semi/FA trigger group is a good thing--options. For just about everyone else, semi is all they'll ever need.

Now a smooth 2- or 3-rd burst trigger without the metric butt ton of cash and hassle? Yeah, I'd do it, for sure. Why? To look cool! :lol3

Even suppressive fire is debatable. There probably have been a few situations where it could be used, but rarely. Well placed shots in semi auto are still going to be more affective (in most situations).

Even for room clearing and CQC, a full auto M4 is out of place. If you need full auto you're much better off with a pistol caliber sub-machine gun, as they have less muzzle climb and you don't have to worry about over-penetration.

M4A1 was originally designed for Special Operations Forces (SOF) with r&d done by the Navy SEAL's. This is the reason why it has FA and the heavy barrel profile. They wanted the ability to use suppressive fire. By contract the M4 has selective-fire with a 3-rnd burst and a thinner profile barrel. These days when someone mention M4 they usually mean a M4A1.

Sorry for the off topic. When I was on the 726 & 729 in Bangor, WA, I always envied the 555. The Dolphin was a cool boat.

In the second pic I added a two sided midwest industries QQD mount around the buffer tube nut and took some of the magpul rail covers off and used the QD hole underneath to mount my surplus M1 Garand sling.
