Hi!
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
We just got in yesterday. We have over 1,500 photos and 80 pages of notes. We will begin posting as soon as we can get some of our stuff sorted out.

This was to be a different type trip. One in which we slowed down and smelled the roses, so to speak. There was no specific day by day objective, just hit some of the National Parks in the northwest and be home in a month. We planned to stop and/or detour any time we saw something that we thought we might want to see. Have you ever been riding down the road and see a sign pointing to something of interest and think, I wish I had the time to take a look at that? Well, we are planning on stopping and taking a look! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

I have passed this sign at least 50 times in the last 20 years and have always wondered what was at the end of the road. It is on US49 between <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Helena, AR and Brinkley. Today we went and found out!

It is basically a raised board walk extending for several hundred yards out in a swamp to the main “marker” for the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Louisiana Purchase.

There was a lot of information on the purchase as well as info on the swamp itself.

You do have to make sure you get out in time! Those gators might get you if you stay after dark!

From there we headed toward <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Pine Bluff on US79 and then on to Malvern, AR on US270 where we took I40 to Greenville, TX. This 300 mile of Interstate was about half of all the Interstate for the entire 29 days! We arrived at to our daughter’s house in Frisco, TX after having ridden 469 miles for the day.

Headed to see Tracy and Andrew. Donnie has always wondered what was at the end of the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Louisiana Purchase sign road. Now he knows! There was a nice display of information on the walkway into the swamp area. Lots of mosquitoes! We got to Frisco, loved visiting with Tracy and Andrew!

We spent the next two days visiting with Tracy and Andrew, her husband. <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Tracy’s birthday is Sept 19, so we were having an early birthday before continuing our trip.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Tracy and I did a little shopping; there are so many neat places to shop in and around Frisco. Tracy and Andrew recently got a wii so of course I had to try it out. Forget baseball and tennis, I am no good at them, but I did like bowling and carnival games. We had a hard time getting Donnie to play but he finally did. I always enjoy playing with their 2 Maltase dogs-Emma and Chloe, they are a lot of fun. Hate to leave but it’s time to continue our adventure!

We left <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Tracy’s at <st1:time Hour="9" Minute="15">9:15</st1:time> and headed west on US380 toward Decatur and then north on US81 to Bowie, TX. We are not headed to California, but I guess the folks before us were!

I can’t remember if this was the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Red River or not, but it sure is pretty! Do you know?

We made it to Oklahoma! I wonder if them <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />California people herded cows as well!

We rode into Terral, Ok following a sign promising <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Chisholm Trail information, but we didn’t find any and we rode all six streets! But we did find Mama Josie’s Café and it was much better than a sign board would have ever been! The beef enchiladas were excellent!

We continued on to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Duncan and turned west toward Lawton. We stopped in Hinton, OK at the Red Rock Canyon State Park for the night. As the name implies it is a narrow canyon surrounded by red walls. It had a very steep road leading into the park with some very difficult switchbacks. I was wondering how in the world people pulled or drove RVs on this road. The was no way to tell if someone was coming down if you were headed up and regardless of the power in your RV, if you didn’t get a running start you were not going to make it to the top! I thought about old Sam as we were riding into camp.

If he looks close it is because he was! I though he was going to go for a walk with us. Armadillos had dug hole all over the park. Can anyone say “varmint hunting”? You know in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" />Mississippi that is “opossum on a half shell”!
