Not enough run-off, nor is it open enough for F1 speeds. They already have Monaco for that.
I feex. :jose
It's also in the wrong part of the country. F1 likes world-class cities for race destinations.
Looks like Austin may be on the Calendar for next year, after all.
But. The news story I just read also says they are "holding the check until they get a signed contract from Bernie"
Seems like a bad time to play chicken with Uncle Bernie.
I'm not going to say that I wish the muggers had finished the job because that would be wrong.
You know, when this thing first came up, people said bernie was like this. Guess they were right.
Yup. He is. Folks in NJ need to be looking over their shoulder too....
Yeah, nothing says "world-class" like Weehawken, New Jersey.
Jurgen is becoming very concerned. Is construction moving forward during this?
I was out there with a wheelbarrow and some concrete today. I dont think it will pass inspection though..
I'm on my way to help.
Is it my union mandated break yet?
I'm not exactly an Ecclestone fan, but I don't understand why so many are angry with him over this? Reading the comments by Tavo himself and others, it seems as if 25 million was the agreed upon price (by both parties) but the COTA people came up short, deadlines were extended, and they came up short again. It's not like the sanctioning fee was suddenly thrust into the contract and taking people by surprise.
How is this anything but a fuck up by the money people Texas? If you're striking deals with a hardliner, you make sure your shit is in order so you still have some pull and a voice. COTA has to play by the same rules (however ridiculous) as everyone else, and they would have known this going into it from the beginning. Other cities have their circuits on the calendar, COTA is the one dropping the ball. The focus should be on getting cars on the track, people in the stands, advertising, and the hundreds of millions from revenue and tax breaks the circuit will generate. All this other crap is just infighting, power plays, and bureaucratic nonsense.
OpMike has summed it up nicely.
Texas is trying to, as always, be the big swinging dick.
Guess what? Bernie holds that title.
