    G'day inmates,

This may be a little confusing so let me explain.

Changed my chain and sprockets about 10,000km ago with this set:

    Steel Sprockets & O-RING Chain
OEM Gearing Ratio: 17:41 (Front/Rear Sprockets)
OEM Chain Size: 525x120 (Master Link included with chain)

Disappointingly, the chain has stretched unevenly. It makes it almost impossible to adjust correctly and feel I should just change it out. I certainly won't be using WPS chains again.

After only 10,000km the sprockets are still in decent shape. Hardly any sign of wear.
What I'd like to do is change the chain with something cheap until I eventually change out the chain/sprockets together with something better.

Ebay has one with the following specs:

Motorcycle O-Ring 520H Golden 116L chain universal new
Brand New Aftermarket Reliable High quality O-RING chain
    Style: 520H-O
    Links:: 116
    Compatibility: universal
    Color: Golden
    Heavy-duty tensile strength
    Hi-tech heat treated alloy steel
    Pre-stretched and anti-fatigue
Mesh belt conveyor fumace use for roller and bush solid rollers
    Pre-stressing chain
    20000 kilometers guaranteed
Under iso 9001:2000 quality management certificate
    Quantity: 1 pcs

My questions to you are, will this chain fit my sprockets?

Does it matter my current chain is 525 and this one is 520?

Is it a lot more work fitting an endless chain? (the new one is) Can I do this at home? I have limited tools.

    Appreciate the help!

    Hold on...

If a chain is said to be 525x120, does that mean there are 120 links?

    Excuse my ignorance. :huh

I'd replace the chain only. I've replaced only the small sprocket when replaced my chain last time. Anyway, be sure to use the correct number of links and not to over-tense your chain when you are adjusting the tension.

    Yeah.. I'll do just that.

I found a 525x120 chain and will remove links if necessary. The f650gs twin uses a 116 link chain, right?

    The great state of confusion
I was told it was 116 links ... but have not changed mine yet,
    so can't verify 100%

Yes you do need 525 the 525 denotes the "pitch" and width of the chain,
so that needs to be an exact match ... (don't use a 520 for example)

Both the 650 and 800 have 525x116 chains. The 650 single has a 520 so thank BMW for the confusion.

Endless chains require removing the swing arm. Easy but with pitfalls and not for the less inclined. I don't trust clip type master links. Buy a chain riveter and learn how to use it. Alternately, have a shop rivet it on. Cheap chains are cheap.

Don't be cheap with parts that strand you when they fail. :eek1

It was $100 and came highly recommended. It has 15K kms on it and I adjusted it twice. Rivet style. The next available was $250 for a DID. Those cheap different coloured chains on Ebay look like fancy garbage. Of course, if you just ride to the mall and back it won't matter. :D

You're just like a woman who doesn't forget and brings up old stuff to be used against me!
