    Hey folks just joined. Looking to buy a new f700. Sat on one with a lowered suspension and it felt great. Also sat on a regular suspension. Could flat foot both. I'm 5'9" and wondering which one I should go for? I don't want to regret which ever bike I choose. I'm a new rider with a year under my belt on an XT250 which I will be trading in towards the f700. Any recommendations?

    Flat footing is highly overrated. I've never been able to flat foot my R1200GSA's, unless they were fully loaded and we were two up.

    My regular suspension F700GS with BMW Comfort Seat is awesome. If you have small hands, the adjustable Touratech brake and clutch levers are a big help. BMW lower crash bars and Touratech upper crash bars will help with needed protection for the little oops that will come with time.

    Get the regular height. Soon enough you'll be venturing off road and you'll want the extra travel. It's easier to put a low seat on a reg height bike than it is replacing the suspension on a low bike to make it normal. A third option.

    If you don't need the lower suspension, don't get it.

    Thanks all for the feedback. I was thinking that folks would feel this way but wanted to hear it. The regular suspension seems to be the way to go and probably swap out the seats. Plus I didn't want to lose the center stand which was what didn't come on the bike that was lowered.

    Some dealers will give the new owner a BMW low seat instead of the regular height BMW seat that comes from the factory, but even the stock BMW seat is more comfortable than the BMW low seat.

    +1 on the regular seat......I just picked my F7 up two days ago and only have 100 miles on it and its fantastic! I'm your same height and the regular seat is perfect.

    Let us know when you pick it up......what color ya getting?

    Am looking for the Osta Grey. Probably getting around April/May if it ever stops snowing:cry. My dealer only had red in, so hopefully they get more or I will be ordering it

    I am 5'7" and have regular F7 with comfort seat....My foot not on the grund but I am okay with it....Once bike is loaded and have pillion my foot is already on the ground...

    I just picked up my F7 in December. I debated on a low seat but ended up with the regular seat. Two months later I wish I would have gotten the F800. I was worried about the seat height for nothing - you really get used to it quickly. I'm only 5-10ish (and shrinking) so we should be about the same. go with the regular set up - you won't regret it at all. Plus a low seat has less legroom and a lower suspension has less load capacity.

    On a side note - the seat isn't ideal (for me) for long rides so I'll be upgrading. Most of the comfort seats are a little taller which works out well as now I wish I had more leg room.

    I bought my F7 six months ago. I'm 5'10" with a 30" inseam. Went from a bobbed out and slammed V-Star to the F7 ... nearly twice the seat height (or so it seem'd) ... I picked it up at the dealer (and rode it) 1,000 miles to "home" ... you'll get used to the height real quick ... just do it !! I've been riding most of my life (owned, rode and crashed many bikes before) and absolutely love the GS !!

    PS ... I think the seat is fine ... works for me at least.

    I'm 5'3" with a 28.5" inseam riding a standard height F650GS twin. I can almost get the ball of both feet on the ground with the low seat. Tried the standard seat, the height was still OK but the shape of the seat was not good for me - wedgie maker. The low seat is rather thin but is shaped like a saddle not a phone pole. It would be a great seat with some better foam, something I'll do some day.

    I've got the low seat on mine. Honestly, I don't see why people complain so much about it. It works just fine and is not uncomfortable by any means.

    I'm 5'4. Got low susp. and low seat. Wishing I'd gone with std susp. Now looking at mods to bring it up. Consider the time spent with both feet planted vs time riding on dirt and needing clearance. Low is 145mm r, 135mm f. Std is 200mm f/r travel.

    Just ordered my bike in Osta grey:clap. 4-6 weeks to delivery! Hopefully the snow will be gone. Got the standard seat and regular suspension. Can't wait

    Ditto! I picked up my F700 on the 7th, it has 300miles on it already =)

    Little disappointed at first with the shift quality and the vibration from the engine (My 75 CB550 runs smoother at 4K+) but I can already feel it smoothing out.

    Handled California's "Little Dragon" or Highway 49 from Auburn to Senora with perfect precision. The bike is more capable than is "safe or sane" on that road, I never felt like I even got close to the edge of the envelope.

    I've got 1200 miles on mine, and there is still noticeable vibration above 4K rpm. Installing grip puppies helped a little bit, but not much. Maybe a heavier handlebar would help?

    The dealer I went to, whom I have know one of the 3 owners for about 10 years, said that some of his "round the world" bike owners say the Rotax gets really smooth at 40K miles. :D

    Might take me a few years to get there!

    Yes. By 40K, everything else on the bike shakes so badly that you hardly even notice the engine vibration. :)
