F800GS / F650GS Britania Composites Fairing

    Nobody has fitted one yet to my knowledge, but I briefly looked at one and I don't see any issues. Even if there is some 'tweaks' needed, we will be doing one for it anyway and a friend of mine has just got one, so I'll be able to be more sure in a weeks time.

    Thanks Ian, will be very keen to hear how it goes.

    I'm getting close to pulling the trigger on a F800GSA, so I'll be waiting to hear :-)

    I know this will vary wildly between dealers (and even countries!), but has anyone had any issues regarding warranty voidance due to the Mirages?

    I scheduled my 10k inspection and service for february and was wondering if I should switch back to the original screen before that.

    PS: I'm located in Rio de janeiro/BR.

    Had a brief look when the bike first came out and had to conclude that nothing we currently have would adapt very easily. We are introducing a new style of fairings featuring a different headlight configuration in a 'stacked' style starting with a KTM 990 fairing coming out in a few weeks and we intend to produce a similar Lynx sized unit in the same look. This will give us an opportunity to revisit the G650, but it won't be until the end of this year.

    A couple more have gone to Germany since and one of the guys is going to try and put it through the testing for us. It seems this is the easiest way to do it rather than from over here.

    I finally bought a Mirage 2, and figured I should revive this thread with some pics of the latest revisions. Ian's last update gave the fairing and screen a slight rearward curve, a taller shield, and I think he trimmed for more handguard clearance.

    Install is stupid easy, and the quality of all the components and hardware is super. The whole thing is very simple, and assembles into a rock solid adjustable fairing.

    That said: I didn't purchase one earlier because I thought the dash shape and texture were ugly, and I had reservations about the 'fiberglass' fairing looking like crap on the back side. All the reviews said that it looks way better in person than in pictures. THIS IS COMPLETELY TRUE! The shapes and textures get exaggerated in photos - in person they blend into the bike well and give the whole front end a finished, integrated look. The texture on the back of the fairing is kind of a 'carbon fiber' pattern - it looks great, and most of it is hidden anyway.

    In person, the dash doesn't dominate the fairing, it actually recedes into it and finishes the cockpit off with a bitchin' GPS perch. I tried to get a good angle to illustrate:

    Hot day, want some wind? Offroad? Put it down:

    Cold morning? Put it halfway up. Long highway haul ahead? Slide it all the way up. I'm 6'2" on a tall seat and I can cruise 75-80 mph on the highway with the wind shooting over the beak of my Hornet. I've spent 17k miles on this bike taking the full brunt of the wind on my chest and helmet. No more:

    And true to forum comments, Ian is a pleasure to work with. I worked ahead on rewiring my GPS so I could have it done when the fairing arrived - and he was helpful in giving me the info I needed - and more!

    What about the wind noise? Still turbulences?

    Guess he didn't get it?

    Still considering to pull the trigger on your fairing. At last I might have to use it illegally... :wink:

    I didn't hear anything back, but there must be about 10 in Germany now. Do you think these guys might just not bother about TUV ? I'm not sure how strict it is, but I don't think anyone has ever mentioned the TUV issue other than yourself and there are also lots of our Lynx fairings over there too !

    Hmm. Maybe your right. Probably no one will notice it.
    What is the material of the fairing and the screen?
    Is it spatter proof or do you even have some kind of material opinion for it?

    The screens are Lexan and are meant to be shatter resistant and the composite fairing itself is stronger than all of the OEM bodywork.

    I think Lexan is some kind of polycarbonate? This should be shatter proof and there won't be sharp edges, when shattering anyhow.
    What material is the fairing itself made of?

    I think I will try it. I need a fairing. ;-)


    Btw. Is the fairing DOT certified for the US market?
    This could help over here, too.

    Fairing is Fibreglass. The fairing is not DOT certified. I think only lights require DOT certification here.

    Hhm. Thanks for all of this information. I think I would have to use it illegally. I looked into it. Just about 100,- bucks and a walk home, if the police catches you.
    But in the last 10 years they didn't stop me for a control. ;-)

    Btw: The main problem isn't how stable the material is. It seems more to be the question, if there are sharp edges when splattering which could injure persons.

    I've had windshields with ABE which were bending with the airstream extremly. Not stable but probably sure when splattering. Or they got their e-sign in Spain. ;-)

    After all: Your fairing seems to eliminate all the problems of other fairings for this bike: wind protection, probably less buffeting (I hope so) and a mount plate for the GPS.
    So I haven't any choice, right?
